I've been having a bout of highly vivid and clear dreams or rather nightmares lately.
the latest was a bit peculiar and left me waking up mildly upset.
I was riding in a truck with coworkers back to where we had left for the day. sitting in the back passenger seat I had been lazily looking out the window when I saw what looked like a shallow ravine in the mountain. somehow I convinced the entire crew that it was a good idea to hike the ravine. we all dismounted and separated out walking at our own paces when I came across a small child walking around without supervision. being a parent I took it upon myself to be this child's caretaker, there were mountain lions in this area after all..
I remember seeing 2 large deer approach, a buck and a doe. the buck was visibly curious but dangerously so, pacing and circling us unusually until it eventually began to behave a bit hostile. after some time I managed to scare it off with a couple of very loud sounds.
moments later a black panther appeared from the direction we had came into the ravine from. it began behaving similarly.curious, but precariously so.. the child kept attempting to approach the panther and I kept trying to keep them separated without provoking the cat. suddenly the panther went from curious to attempting to maul me grabbing me by my non dominant hand. reluctantly I killed the cat. it was either the cat or the child and I's safety on the line. I get the game wardens involved and plead my case, I didn't want to kill the animal but there was no hope for our safety if I kept letting it try to maul me. the wardens brushed it off "there was no choice". I woke up moments later, distraught, upset, angry and confused...
why? black panthers don't live in that area. why was it there, why did it maul me? why was the child roaming around alone....
so many questions.
over all it was a weird experience. not sure why I shared this story but I figured it might be nice to document this seeing as black panthers keep appearing in my trips and dreams. almost always stalking me... not sure what to make of this repetitive presence...
