Any experience with Tetrahydrofuran (THF)

Migrated topic.
I've seen various references on the web to Tetrahydrofuran (THF) being used as an extraction solvent, and have seen it described both as strongly polar & moderately polar. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience using this substance and can comment on its use as a spice extractor, howit compares with, say naphta or Toluene, also any idea as to whether spice could be freeze precipitated out of it or would have to be evaporated would be good.

Thanks

I would not recommend it. If its not stablized it can form peroxides upon storage in air. Commercially it is usually stablized with BHT which is used as a food preservative and has caused a bit of controversy over its safety. I see no reason to choose THF over any other easily available solvent.

I also doubt you could freeze precipitate out of it because of its polarity.
