My little guy bloomed the other day! It was so cool! The bloom went from being closed to being open in about 20 mins. I took pics along the way to record the different stages.

This is my first cactus of this type, so I'm a little excited.

When I first noticed it, I took it outside to see if some fresh air and sunlight would help the process along.

Thanks for posting, guys! Beautiful plants! They all look so happy. You guys should be proud papas(or mamas).

I have three total. Being that this is my first year owning them, and first flowering, it's all new and very exciting. My three are not intended for human consumption - My intention was to be part of the preservation of a rare, beautiful organism.

I look forward to giving the seeds away to my friends and my family. My mom and my dad have green thumbs, and they're pretty excited.

What would you do? Give them a seed? or Germinate the seeds and give them a young, happy button? The gifts I give my friends usually carry sentiment, so I feel like it may be a little more special if I germinate them first.

None of mine are blooming at the moment, but I will definitely share pictures when they do! :)

Yes I feel the same way, for the most part. I feel obligated to help preserve this beautiful lifeform as it becomes more and more rare in it's natural habitat. Though, I would like to experience the full-spectrum peyote alkaloids at least once, most of my plants will not be consumed. I'll save the extractions and brews for my trichocereus varieties, since they regrow so much faster.

wait until the fruit is ripe before harvesting the seedpod
sprout seed and 10 -14 days later graft onto a 3-6" section of rooted (or not)pereskiopsis
grow under floro light for 2-4 months and gift as lolipop to golf ball sized buttons

the first year (or few months as a grafted seedling) require special care and as gifts they will have greater survival rates if you help them along first
:)

congrats all on the flowers... lophs do flower readily and seed sets from just one plant typically(self fertile)

Herbal, that's a beautiful flower! Does it have a pleasant odor?

My other little button is about to bloom.

I've got 4 total(if you include the newly germinated little guy/gal). I decided it was appropriate to name them.

The first one in the first set of pics, above, is Soaring Eagle.

The second one(not pictured) - that has had a few issues, but recovering is Wondering Bear

The third one, currently about to bloom is named Soaring Bear. "When bears fly..." it'll be a good day.

Maybe the new button should be Wondering Eagle.
