Artistic Arrangements of Microscopic Algae Viewed Through a Microscope

man.. i want to get a microscope and some diatoms now :d

I'm a bit confused as to what they mean by "artistic arrangements". Do the distinct diatoms actually look like that (i.e. symmetrical and kaleidoscopic arranged individually to create a mandala) or is it an image of several diatoms that was manipulated in photoshop or something of the like to create a kaleidoscopic effect of otherwise unsymmetrical diatoms?

The microscopic world is incredible and awe inspiring, any serious explorer should own a microscope. My antique Japanese microscope is my pride and joy.
