best defat solvent?

i tried faw solvents for defat:
peteoleum ether - which really not makes diffrent and still give emulsion.
xylen - works like charme but smells like hell.
dcm is bad option cause it can pull alkaloids even at acidic ph.

so for now xylen\toluene is the best option but have major minuses: stincks like hell, high boiling point which makes it harder to distill.

can you think about other non-polar solvent that can perform a good defatting and be less smelly?

Xylene is great, not just for defatting but for crashing out very clean crystals through the FASA method, for both dmt and mescaline the same. Just use a good respirator and limit exposure to open air (jars with lids). Siphone off with a half cracked jar. Work in open air environment, whether that means making a little open shelter in you back garden or somewhere where you wont be visible with a mask on playing about with glassware... :shock:
