Caapi Leaf. To extract or not?

Hello! I've been very intrigued to make changa for quite sometime. I finally got all the ingredients including a handful of different herbs.

I have my spice, caapi leaf, blue lotus, passion flower, dream herb, and damiana. However for my first blend i want to make a simple blend of spice and caapi leaf.

From my understanding the caapi leaf is what works as the MAOI. However here is my question. Do I need to make the caapi leaf into a 11x extract? Or can I just use the leafs. I'm reading a lot of conflicting instructions. Does the extract help make the experience last longer?

If I need to make an extract, do you need to use ethyl alcohol or simply boil in water? I've seen people mention both. Or can I get the same effects by just using the leafs without making an extract?

I am having a difficult time finding some basics instructions for making changa. I have .5g spice and a lot of caapi. Thank you.

Hi there. I can relate 100% to the feeling that there are “a lot of conflicting instructions” as I’ve spent an incredible amount of time searching and reading these here forums only to come away with more questions than answers. But, in reality it is less about conflict than it is the overwhelming number of combinations and permutations of the components we talk about here. The answers really are all here, and for me, by the time I’ve read enough, I end up knowing the answer without it being explicitly stated in any one post.

To address your question: the first thing to realize is that the harmala alkaloids, that may come from your cappi leaves, provide two different contributions to this DMT experience. The first is as an MAOI. This is vital to experiencing DMT through ingestion. If you try to get DMT to your brain through your stomach without it, you will not likely succeed. Making this a vital component in ayahuasca. But, we are concerned here with changa, and that comes into your body through your lungs and is able to get to your brain before your body has time to neutralizes it. The MAOI aspect of the changa experience, while it may may make it last a wee bit longer than vaped freebase alone, is not why it is needed in changa.

The second contribution that the hamalas provide is as a potent drug on their own. They are intoxicating on their own, and when combined with DMT become magical. If you imagine that DMT builds up some sort of hyper dimensional space with all sorts of wild geometries and colors, then what the harmalas do is to set your DMT space into motion. It adds some sort of depth and flow to the DMT experience.

So, with changa, it is a combination of a DMT trip and harmala trip combined (with an MAOI delay thrown in for free). A typical recipe might be something like a weight of DMT freebase + 30% of that weight harmala freebase (possibly derived from cappi) + that weight again of a carrier herb so you can smoke it. Somehow you need to get the DMT and harmala to stick to the herb so the proportions are right when they go into your smoking device.

For you, if you combine DMT and cappi as the herb, you will get some of the harmalas for free. It won’t be the 30%, but you will be adding some harmala effects to you DMT experience. I’ve tried smoking a cappi only joint and found that it did indeed offer a perceivable harmala experience similar to a weak rue tea.

I would appreciate it if anyone else can provide more info on using cappi leaves. Such as how much harmala they actually provide when used this way. And, also if used to make a tea how they compare to rue.

Best regards.

I always pre-dose smoking my Harmalas. I have some in the Changa as well, but I like pre-dosing.
I smoke the Harmalas until I feel it. Gracie and Zarkov spoke of "feeling calm" and that's all you really need. More is more psychedelic maybe and different amounts of Harmala is fun to explore, but...

I can feel Syrian Rue in a few hits of straight seeds (harsh, a simple water extract is way better).
I have to smoke up on Caapi leaf. It's kinda weak. I've done a 4x extract which works much better on 2-5 hits.
Caapi is different. More "up". Less, "serious". I like it better, usually. A bowl of both mixed is nice.
