Caapi propagation from leaf

I just came across an extremely interesting video on youtube showing a caapi leaf that had accidentally rooted. The video is over a year old and there has been no update on wether or not the cutting took so it looks like someone needs to volunteer for an experiment!

I'm wondering if you could go about cloning the caapi in a similar fashion as you would with a psychotria leaf cutting? Unfortunately my caapi died a while back during a winter move so I can't test this out myself.

Are there any members growing caapi that would like to spare a leaf or two to test this out?

i would attempt to clone my muricata by leaf, but given that i failed to root multiple viridis leafs, i do not think i would be the best person to attempt this.

if nobody else can give it a shot, i will try for science's sake, but if it doesn't take that might not be indicative of anything but my brown thumb

From experiments that were done 20 years ago it seems caapi will not propagate successfully from leaf. They will send out quite an extensive root system and stay green and healthy for a long time, but apparently caapi doesn't posess the ability to initiate an aerial shoot.

The experiment was short-lived and eventaully abandoned, but further efforts might yield something. Use of hormones or tissue culture would be the most likely avenues I would think.

Its hard to believe a rooted caapi leaf would not induce shoot formation if a hormone such as the cytokinin BAP was applied.

I've rooted Salvia D leaves and also caapi. Neither of them ever made a viable plant... just a leaf. I even tried cracking the stem to see if I could get it to callous into a node, no joy.
