Caapi Vine Extraction - Purification / Wash

I recently did the Easy Caapi Vine extraction:

However I don't have PH strips so I wasn't able to measure the alkalinity for the step
"Remove Excess NaOH, Salts, Etc."

After the evap step, there are white crystals mixed with the tan caapi extract.

This may just be spice residue on the dish, that has recrystallized along with the caapi extract, or it may be NaOH due to insufficient dilution during the diluting & washing steps.

I am planning on further washing the collected extracts with distilled water.

Say putting the collected solids in 100ml of water, giving a stir, waiting to settle then pour off water. (Potentially) Repeat a few times. Maybe I'll even find some ph paper.

Re-Evap and re-evaluate.

Does this sound like a sane idea?

I would dissolve your harmalas in acetic acid and filter once more. After that base with Sodium carbonate instead of Sodium hydroxide. Then do the appropriate amount of rinses.

As for the possible dmt contamination. If you want to clean this up you could perform a manske to precipitate the beta carbolines while dmt should remain dissolved in the solution.

Best regards
