Hello Nexians.

I'm have a few questions, that I have searched for.
But the Answers seem to vary.

1. When doing a A/B on dry fine powered cactus, do you make a
Tea, boiling several times filtering and then discard the cactus pulp?

Or,can the pulp be left in the Tea and carry on the extraction process?

2. Is the De-fat required? Recommended? Or not necessary?

Thanks for your time and input.

Hey Mz,
The point of removing the plant matter is to make the extraction cleaner/easier, and alkaloids generally are extracted better from concentrated solution rather than plant material. You can do water extractions of the powder until there is clearly not much goodies left being pulled from it (the water not being colored/ having much taste).

For cacti, defatting is pretty much obsolete and unneccessary.

Hope this helps, gL.

Thanks for the response Kash :)

I was unable to filter the Tea, as it turned to Snot as the powder was very fine to start with. So after the boils, I just left it as is, and continued with the extraction.

And I decided to skip the De-fat, no need to make more work for myself that's not necessary.

I will be finishing it up today, with salting and final steps.
Will know if I am successful in a few days when it dries.

Thanks again for your help, I will post again with my final product. ( if any, ha)

Ya you have to cook the snot brew for awhile (2+ hrs) before the snot burns off and the brew turns watery. Takes time and patience but makes filtering possible.
