I have only done STB teks so far and wish to try Q21's fluffy white fun fest! :)

I happen to have some hydrochloric acid lying around, could this be watered down and used as a substitute for the vinegar in Q21's tek?
If so, what would the ideal PH be for the acidification step in the tek?

Thanks

1. Why ?

2. It was reported that stronger than 10% solution might hurt DMT. 69Ron forum search I believe.

Just because i happen to have some hydrochloric acid to hand for which i have no use.

Do you know what the ideal PH would be?

Thanks.

In theory 5 is enough, 4 is good and anything below is not needed (if you apply enough mechanical force to the bark - boiling, pressure).

Honestly I don't see any usage for HCl. In theory it's strength could help reduce the boiling needed but there is also a theory/possibility that low PH's release more unwanted (not N,N-DMT) stuff.

Ok, thanks for your advice.

When you say "unwanted" you mean other alkaloids? or just general impurities? Im just curious, think i will stick with vinegar :)

Q21's old write up did include instructions for hydrochloric acid instead of vinegar, he said to add drop by drop and mix until the mixture turned red.

This is not included on the recent re-write though... also bare in mind in some shades of light you can't see the mix turn red as it's quite subtle.

In theory, both.

Of course it will work, as will phosphoric, or citric. You just need an acid to lower the pH to 4. Since its a strong acid you will need to be more careful, protect your eyes and add slowly, then stir for a bit and check pH.

It could work though SWIM's experience with HCl and DMT is when he was testing how much DMT HCl would dissolve in 10% HCl-water and accidentally added it to some DMT-acetate in water. When he evaporated the water and tried to smoke the product it tasted like DMT and smoked like DMT but did NOTHING, 3 grams gone :(

It's probably okay to use low-PH HCl but SWIM only uses vinegar.

FYI, my first extraction was brought down to a ph of .5 (by accident and stupidity) by HCL, brought up to 13+ (by accident and stupidity) and was extremely active and yield was decent.

It CAN be used, just be careful the stuff is nasty if in the wrong hands (like mine 8 years ago).

Sister has used HCl to simmer/extract from MHRB, she usually put about 20-30mls of 31% HCl per 2l litres of water. Don't use a good SS cooking pot though because even at that low concentration it will make the inside of your SS pot look badly tarnished. And if you use an aluminum pot you will end up with Aluminum Chloride and a thinner pot. Ceramic cooker or borosilicate glass is best.

She has also used 5% AcOH with slightly better yields and no destroyed cooking pot.
