Can I keep basified mixture overnight?

Hi all,

I have realized I need a narrower vessel to better extract the lighter fluid, as it's too thinly spread out at the moment, but I need to wait until tomorrow to get such a container.

Can I store the basified mixture overnight? Can't extract all of the lighter fluid. Maybe keep in the fridge? It's currently in a preserving jar.

Cheers,
Valmar

Cheers. Guess as long as I don't shake it, the lighter fluid shouldn't be explodey, heh.

Yes, as long as you have relieved any and all pressure in your vessel, and don't heat it up under any circumstances, your NPS should not be a problem when closed in a tightly sealed container. I know some people have kept their basified soup for more than a year and still managed to get a decent yield out of it, so you should be good.

Also, to make your separation a breeze, I'd recommend getting a dedicated separatory funnel. They're not that expensive and make this part of the process infinitely easier.

Oooh, that's extremely nice! Means I won't have to deal with chuffing basters and eye-droppers and not have to worry about sucking up basified mixture to contaminate everything. I will seriously consider it I think. Means I can just use my fermentation jar for everything, including shaking, without worrying about the size of the rim.

I'm following Cyb's Hybrid ATB tech, albeit using Acacia Confusa root bark. (My only concerns there are that I haven't done proper heat baths or mixed the shellite properly.)

Hi Valmar, I posted my way of getting around this problem here
The pictures speak for themselves, but basically you can use a small glass funnel with disposable pipettes and you will get your 50ml off in less than a minute with no basic mix contamination whatsoever.
Glass funnels come in all sizes so I'm sure you can pick one up to accommodate whatever container you are using a long stem is best as the pictures show. I was thinking of calling it a "manually operated inverted separatory funnel" but thought it was a bit of a mouthful!
You can use a much smaller funnel diameter than the container size if that is all you can get, you just lift it out above the mixture and push it back in to pick up the layer of solvent that spreads out across the surface, it usually takes me 5 or 6 goes to get everything out.
Any mixture pulled up the stem or into the pipette simply runs off the sides.
I hope you find this useful.
