(Closed) Submit Questions for Andrew Gallimore

Dr. Gallimore is also in the final stages of writing his new book, which could make a good source for original questions.

What we know so far: It will be published through a "Big 5" Publishing House, it will be his first book entirely devoted to DMT, he discusses archetypes and how they relate to the DMT experience, it's for a mainstream audience, he interviewed a Strassman volunteer for it, and the phrase "peculiar presentiment" will NOT be present in it.

Ask with that what you will :)
or anything else

Not sure what kind of questions were already asked to Andrew Gallimore, though here are the few things that I think would be interesting to ask:
  1. What initially drew you to study DMT and psychedelics?
  2. What safety protocols do you recommend for the use of DMT in both clinical and non-clinical settings?
  3. Can you share any recent findings or ongoing studies from your research that you're particularly excited about?
  4. What are the most significant differences between the effects of DMT and other psychedelics like psilocybin or LSD?
  5. Your work often explores the concept of consciousness. How has your research on DMT informed your understanding of consciousness?
  6. What advice would you give to new researchers entering the field of psychedelic studies?

Kind regards,

The Traveler

^bumping this

In addition to some of my own questions, we have enough for the interview. However, if anybody else would like to submit a question, speak now or forever hold your peace. I'll be giving 2 days from now before writing up and submitting the Q&A.

Sorry for the short timeframe! I'd like to give him as much time to respond as possible.

Dr. Gallimore, first of all, thanks for being authentic and asking weird questions. I have been asking myself this question for a while, and am still unsure about how to answer it: To what extent is the dedication of a large part of ones life to the psychedelic experience simply one of reality escapism (a form of addiction in its own right), and to what extent is it a pathway into divine mysteries or esoteric knowledge?

I don't know his type of work but since most need to be very scientific approach using synthetic dmt and exact weights/doses.

Considering many online don't have access to synthesized dmt but use extraction methods to obtain from a certain number of plant. Besides the fact that there are minor alkaloids likely influencing some people report differences in mimosa vs psychotria extracted material even on 'pure' extracts removing other alkaloids.

Knowing that the dmt molecule is what responsible for the most part; does synthetic dmt vs extracted dmt in a double blind test shown any differences? Are any differences just placebo or is the source of any importance to the experience or would that just be dose dependent? With indigenous shamans using one plant over another because of different plant 'spirits' and many subjective reports of different animals and visuals based on the plants used to provide the visions. Since they can't know the exact dosage in a brew are this just subjective or the work of secondary alkaloids and acids in the plants.

I don't have enough understanding to know if this has been answered or not in any form.

^Final bump
I'll be writing the interview up tonight
I would like to ask:

If one were to approach DMT work and research from a non-materialist metaphysical perspective and assumption as is so common in the mainstream research field (ie scientific materialism), which metaphysical framework would he think would be a good one, and indeed which seems indicated by the DMT experience itself?

I'd like a more in depth detailing of DMT's Adrenergic properties and how that impacts the DMT effects/experience. Because ime DMT is very Adrenergic, especially orally, and it seems to come from the Alpha 1A Adrenergic agonism based on the receptor binding profile and some similar effects noticed from other Alpha 1A agonists, and i can't help but feel/understand that the Alpha 1A Adrenergic properties play a huge role in DMT's quality of effects/experience, especially compared to something like Psilocin. I've also noticed that the speed on onset of DMT might be why it's more intense than some other compounds with the same property, and that one can decrease the Adrenergic intensity of DMT while maintaining overall benefits by sipping DMT-containing tea for 10 to 15 minutes or "sipping" on Changa.

Also, how might this apply to something like Haoma/Soma (if the speculation that Ephedra was involved is true), and with Ephedra increasing the activity of Noradrenaline at the Alpha Adrenergic receptors, would that cause some similar effects to what DMT produces Adrenergically-speaking? If so, again, what "special" properties might one experience from the Adrenergic (rather than Serotonergic) side of things?

Could you summarize this into a shorter question (or two)? I've been doing the same with the other submissions, but this one I'd prefer if you rewrote it yourself to encompass the important parts you want to know. I think this'll be a very interesting one for him

Three sentences max per question please 👾

Sure thing.

1. - What roles, in your opinion as well as scientifically-speaking, do the Adrenergic Alpha 1A receptors have in the effects of DMT?

2. - Are there any special qualities or properties that can be attributed to DMT's Alpha 1A agonism, and can that property of DMT be implicated in death/near death states?

3. - They say Ephedra could've been involved in the Haoma/Soma mixture of the Zoroastrians and Vedas, if that were to be the case (especially if combined with Peganum Harmala for example), would Ephedrine's enhancement of Noradrenaline at the Alpha 1A receptors cause similar effects to that of DMT's Adrenergic effects?

I hope that works, if time is short i'd prefer the first two questions to be asked. The third one is optional i guess and just a recent curiosity of mine, because i get the impression/feeling that the Adrenergic Alpha 1A (as well as Alpha 2A) properties of DMT contribute a lot to the overall effects/nature/characteristics of DMT, and i feel like the Alpha 1A agonism in particular not only plays the main role in DMT's intensity, but also the clearheadedness, and the serious tone of the experience, among other things.

As far as Ephedra goes, even though it's said to be contraindicated with MAO-A inhibition (due to the potential risk for Hypertensive Crisis), technically DMT hit's the Alpha Adrenergic receptors, and Ephedrine and DMT could have similar properties in that regard, and especially in combination with Harmalas at the right dosages one could maybe get similar benefits Adrenergically-speaking that one gets from DMT,. It wouldn't be "Psychedelic" of course because of lack of Serotonin 2A agonism, but if some of DMT's benefits do come from it's Adrenergic properties, there could be some similarities there imo, which one could then speculate that maybe at one time DMT was the main Adrenergic agent in Haoma/Soma, and then that ingredient was lost and then substituted with Ephedra, that's the only way imo that it would make sense for Ephedra to be listed by some as being at least part of Haoma/Soma, especially if Peganum Harmala was involved.
