On an episode of "life with lisa ling" broadcast recently on CNN Lisa did a report on EDM, which I don't have an issue with, but when it came to the drug discussions I thought this was grossly misinforming. They preached the dangers of "molly", which would be fine, but it's not MDMA harming the majority of these festival goers, in the majority of cases it was a research chemical of some sort such as "mephadrone" or "MDPV" or some cathinone compound SOLD AS MDMA that caused harm to these festival goes, actual MDMA was not even involved in most of these cases mentioned when describing the dangers of MDMA.
MDMA is actually pretty safe, dangerous compounds like 4-methylthioamphetamine or research chemicals are hurting people and MDMA is being identified as the cause, and this is what bothered me.
I really don't care about EDM, but I am a strong advocate for psychedelic compounds, and I feel the blanket term "Molly" is being used to make MDMA appear as a dangerous compound with no value otherwise, people are not afraid of 4-methylthioamphetamine, or cathinones, or other compounds with similar receptor agonism but little to no history of Hunan use, they are afraid of MDMA.
The "bunk police" must even resort to smuggling in testing kits, because promoters feel they can get blamed for "condoning drug use" if they allow these precautions because of some bill passed by Joe Biden regarding MDMA and festivals...that's another story though.
I don't care about underground cultures being made into the mainstream, but it does bother me when fairly innocent compounds are dragged into the mainstream with these cultures...
