Comparison of 2 stb teks. With pics!

Migrated topic.

I figured I wanted to do a test of two methods. One eyeballing the amounts and tempatures of all chemicals. This way is mostly just for fun. The second is using a scale and being more precise. Labeled #1 and #2 respectfully. They are both based on Noman's tek. I found when I first started I had no idea what to really look for and I still don't exactly. I hope this helps and I can get some advice and learn more myself.

A few pics

This is the jar #1. Don't really know how much of whats in it. I just threw things together by eyeball. Notice how dark yellow the naptha is.

This is jar #2. I measured everything out. 50g MHRB, 50g Lye, 750ml Water, 50ml naptha. The naptha layer is much more clear.

Comparison of the naptha from the two jars. Both are 50ml. After evaping the volume the down a bit I will freeze precipitate them both.

This is the naptha from jar #1 in the mason jar after 48 hour freeze precipitation. I figured the pictures of the jar in the freezer were mundane enough to exclude. The crystals seem to be extremely yellow. After scraping they are waxy and dark. Almost jungle spiceish.

Note! I forgot to take pictures of much of my next work. After looking at the darkness of the yellow naptha from jar #1 I decided to air evap all of the yellow naptha. I scrapped up the spice and put began to recrystalize. If anyone needs a guide on what I did here check FAQ - DMT Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting Guide - DMT-Nexus Wiki

this is a picture of the shot glass after taking the slag out. I think I may still do a sodium carbonate wash. Looking for advice on that one.
The spice has settled more slag at the bottom. I am not sure if I am really wondering if i should do a sodium carbonate wash.
I dont have the best camera.

This is the sodium carbonate wash. Again, followed from Noman's tek.
Edit! Evaporated this product instead. I didn't have a good container for freeze precip.

Any thoughts??

There will be more to come.

Naptha pulls were heated, but not too much. Thanks for pointing out the sodium bicarbonate. I put the sodium bicarbonate in the oven to turn it into sodium carbonate. I'll get on editing that.

Well, mayhaps the different tints of the Naphtha are because you may have heated the first one up just a bit more? Or let it sit for awhile longer? Or both?

Possibly. That first one is really just a test of eyeballing and not measuring carefully. Im not worried about the results of that one, I am really just seeing if I can make that work. The second one is going to be following the tek perfectly, just with pictures to help.

Well, it doesn't really matter about "how much you measure". My first time I eyeballed it all, and got pretty clean spice (although I didn't heat bath, and I had to add more water).

I guess I just don't understand what your comparing between them? It can't be yield as you dunno what you started with on your first tek...

first pull of jar #1 was about a gram of dark yellow wax. Second pull was a little bit more, almost 1.5g of darker spice.

The first and second pulls from jar#2 are both freeze precipitating right now.
