Background info:

I think the demo scene is one of the most fascinating subcultures in our times.

This thread would serve as a logbook for the best productions this art form can offer.

Just watch, listen and be mesmerized. :)

I wanted to make a historical overview first, but I'm running out of time (have to leave the net in 10 minutes), so I'll show you the state of the art:

Farbrausch: Debris (2007, PC)

Andromeda Software Development: Lifeforce (2007, PC)

Autechre - Gantz Graf

Several years old but a classic.

This is awesome.

Yes it is absolutely awesome and I just love how the video and audio is one. Reminds me of DMT even thou the visuals are very different. Just this link between audio and the visuals.

Genius piece of art.

So several people are generating the demo as it is happening? Really realtime?

No, that's what VJ's are doing, this is different.

These demos are computer programs that generate what you see (and sometimes what you hear) in real time, frame by frame, like a computer game.

There are usually several people involved: one of them does the programming (code), another composes the music, a third paints the graphics and a fourth orchestrates the parts into an artistic whole. The result is a demo which is then presented to the world in the form of an executable and a bunch of data files which you can run on your own computer (if it is capable enough). The videos I posted are just captures of the real thing.

Farbrausch: fr-025: the.popular.demo

Farbrausch was my introduction to the scene. These guys blew my fucking mind with their 128k intro's. Just fucking nuts what they can do with compression.
