Destroying DMT

Over in the Coalition For Entheogenic Liberty subforum, a discussion has come up about law enforcement and DMT 'labs' (for want of a better word).

User SWIMfriend had this interesting idea that I thought I'd share:

2) If you're going to be working, consider an "emergency dump/destruction" scenario for your goods. Come to think of it, I wouldn't at all mind hearing from our chemists members about a reagent that could be dumped onto DMT which would CLEAVE/DESTROY IT somehow--so the gunk couldn't show up as DMT on analysis after that. Such would make for a handy bottle of stuff to have while extracting--if you hear the door crash in upstairs.

I suppose the idea behind this is that, in the event of things really going south, you could take this chemical, and destroy the DMT molecules. If you were smart and didn't have anything else incriminating (such as weed or other illegal entheogens) all the cops would find would be a lab setup with sketchy, but totally legal compounds.

Of course it wouldn't solve all your problems, but at least it would be a useful way to remove the illegal substance pretty completely. You could just say you were a kitchen chemist/wannabe mad scientist or something.

Anyone know of anything that might work?

If its in solution, throw it at the bad guys and run!!

On a slightly more serious note, I've pondered making a safe room. It would be a room specially built to withstand a brief but intense amount of heat. Somehow this room would scorch everything of an illicit nature leaving nothing but ash and carbon. I don't know if it's possible, but man I'd like to have that room!

Fwiw, if the cops are at your place, they may already have evidence of what you have (or be willing/able to fabricate it). Destruction of evidence/interfering with the duties of an officer are not necessarily light charges and should be taken into consideration, depending on your circumstances/local statutes/etc.

Also, as a reminder, to the idea of telling the cops "you were a kitchen chemist/wannabe mad scientist or something," don't do it.

If the police are in your house with a warrant, there is nothing you can say that will get you out of hot water (just repeatedly inform them that you do not consent to the search). If they do not have a warrant, do not let them into your house. The only person you should talk to if the police enter your house is a lawyer. Deviating from this can only hurt you.

If you were to store it in containers that could be flushed down the toilet then, like Infinite I said, this would probably be the quickest and easiest way. Otherwise, if it's in ceramic or metal containers, you could easily destroy it with a propane blowtorch.

I speculate that a strong oxidizing agent would readily destroy any indole.

The C2-C3 double bond on the indole nucleous is readily opened in tryptophan to give Kynurenic acid derivatives with HNO2(NaNO2 + bronsted acid). This reagent is likely the best way to go about it that I can think of so far. Warning though this mixture is very carcinogenic and must be handled with the utmost of care. It cannot be prepared in advance and stored either iirc.

Hydrogen peroxide(30%) might also work, but I'm not certain how long the reaction would take.


I have heard that toilet abnormalities can be traced back to the 'dumper' just an FYI. Depends on how bad they want you though. I know in urban neighborhoods some people have got away scott free by having a look out prompt someone with cocaine or similar and them flushing it just in time.

Store it as very fine fumarate salt and have a jar of water next to it.

If cops come running just pour it to jar then throw jar into the toilet and flush?
Alternatively you can pour the jar down the sink and have running water...
Alternative 2, throw the water of the jar out the window.

Edit: Alternative 3 drink said jar of water. (not sure how much dmt alone will become active orally)
