disposing of the basified sludge

Migrated topic.

The Giddy Aunt
Anyone know of a safe way to get rid of the black sludge after completing an extraction?

I'm not sure it belongs down the toilet, particularly whilst its still so corrosive.

Is it worth pH-neutralising the mix with some vinegar first?

What about burying it?

The method here has to be sustainable, for all those folks who will be pulling DMT this way for a long time yet!

Please share your thoughts.

I'd recommend you neutralize, dilute and pour it outside where organics can filter out the lesser-than-active components in the mixture. Otherwise you're introducing that stuff directly into the wastewater supply, given the wastewater treatment misses it. Just a thought.

just throw it down the drain. seriously, the system deals with ALL sorts of fudge.

we were just washing shit down the drains from our chemistry labs. like... 400 students
all producing AlCl3, zinc complexes, blah blah blah. worse shit than a bit of base...

I am in total aggreament with Burnt, Shoe and D-Juggs. Lye isn't in any way toxic. It's only fancy salt thats a bit basic. Also, it's a deliquesant and absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, so your probly doing the world a favour.
