DMT - Facts vs Speculation

What do we actually know to be scientific fact about DMT apart from its molecular structure, where to find it and how to extract it?

There seems to be a lot of 'bro-science' surrounding DMT, how it affects the brain and its function in the body? In fact I was just watching something about how it is released at birth and death and was asking myself how they came up with this theory, which is all it is, since no scientific studies have ever been conducted (as far as I know) to prove it

There's a lot that is known about DMT pharmacology, where it works in the brain, how it is metabolized, etc etc.

You can check our FAQ for starters, you can check the book DMT: Spirit Molecule for a slightly outdated but interesting read, you can read the wikipedia entry, and you can also simply go to scholar.google.com and search things like "dmt pharmacology", "dmt brain", etc and limit the search to whatever has come out in the last 5-10 years. You can generally download the full science papers for free by pasting the paper link or publication name on the search bar of sci-hub.tw
