I did have mushrooms, LSD and salvia under my belt, so I'm not gonna lie, it was probably some good mental preparation, but DMT (especially for the first year or so) really treated me so much more positively than any of the others. It's a completely different experience. Even though I had a few years of prior psychedelic experience (really started getting into everything a bit more when I finally started smoking DMT), I always feel somewhat comfortable in answering this question (as it has been asked here quite a lot) in saying that I think that DMT as a first psychedelic can be a perfectly good idea. I say the other psychs "prepared" me, but it should be made rather clear that nothing can really prepare you for DMT - not when you administer it properly anyway. The purity, conciseness, multidimensionality, naturalness of the most bizarre experience on Earth is nothing that one can attempt to understand in the slightest without doing it (DMT). I always find it kinda strange how the longer acting psychs seem to react with me in a more unnatural way. It's like "yes I may be having these complex hallucinations, but it almost feels like it's taking a toll on my body and energy." In the case of DMT, hallucinations that are leagues more detailed, powerful and intense than the other hallucinations of the strangest things from alien technology to ancient civilizations and so on, but everything feels natural like things are as they should be. I've got my eyes closed, but it seems like they're open...just somewhere else. There is no toll that's really taken on me for beholding completely immersive visions.
