Does is matter how much Lye I use?

I have a pH tester. Does it mater how much Lye I use as long as the pH is 13.5+

For a STB, you want 1 gram of NaOH per gram of bark. You need the caustic properties of the NaOH to break down the actual bark.

For an A/B, I've had good results with the pH as low as 10, it just takes an extra pull or 2.
