Hey guys and gals,

Before posting this I did look up on google and here on the Nexus but could not find anything. There is a lot about evap tests but no step by step so I want to be sure how to do it and no waste any naphtha.

So i have some Klean Strip VM&P Naphtha that I would like to test just to be sure.

So to do an evap test do I just pour a little onto a glass dish and let it sit there and see if it evaporates?

Or am I supposed to put it in the freezer.

I'll save you a little bit of time here....

Kleen-Strip VM&P used to be my preferred naphtha source before they quit selling that brand up here.

It is good, clean naphtha which I have used many times for extractions.

Excellent stuff!

More or less. Get a perfectly clean small dish or shotglass and add some solvent. Let the solvent evaporate. When the solvent is completely evaporated it should leave no residue.

I used to use Ace Brand Naphtha and my local Ace was bought out so they started stocking Kleen-Strip rather than Ace Brand earlier this year. I used it successfully in various extractions but for some reason I never did an evap test on it because so many people use it I just assumed it was clean. When I finally did get bored and performed evap test the solvent left a minor yet obvious smearing that would never evap all the way off. I don't know what this residue was, but I imagine it is something I didn't want to smoke.

Since then I make the drive to the next nearest Ace and use their brand again. I don't assume brands are clean any more, I do an evap test on each new can of solvent now.

ok well thanks Ancotar and Alert, now I know how exactly to do it.

Also I know that it is really popular for extractions but it's not 100% certain that every can won't have any defects. So I will do a test just to be sure.

Klean strip is by far the best naptha I've found. Not to mention the container is a lot eassier to open cuz it has a plastic tab instead of a metal tab. And it pours better cuz the spout is a little longer than all metal cans. It is good to go, no evap test is really needed. Ace=win.

Then you better stop breathing cuz there's chemicals in that their air. :P

Kleanstrip vm&p is good. Just dry a small amount on a clear pan. Doesn't even necessarily have to be clear as long as you can tell if anything is left after it dries. There should be absolutely nothing left visible in the pan when it dries.
