Drug addiction, Cystic Fibrosis, Ayahuasca

I have a very close friend who is desperate to get well. He has Cystic Fibrosis and has been on Pain(hydrocodone), Anxiety(Alprosolam), and ADHD(Amphetamine) meds for years and years. He has been doing fairly well lately and wants to drink Ayahuasca to see if it will help him come off of the prescriptions. He also has come down with a bad lung infection due to his Cystic Fibrosis and hopes that it might help as well. I have given him some bufo on top of some mullein he says it actually helps his breathing a lot. I worry that he may not be able to stay off of the amphetamine for a few days before he drinks Aya and that it might have a dangerous interaction, the Benzo and Hydrocodone also but I see that as less of a threat to his health. Does anyone have any experience drinking with meds in there system?

The combination of opioids and MAOI/RIMAs is potentially hazardous with meperidine being the worst of the bunch; alprazolam is okay with RIMAs but the amphetamines are definitely contraindicated with MAOIs/RIMAs.

Other factors to consider are the complications of CF which your friend may also be on treatment for ie asthma/COPD,bronchiectasis, pancreatic failiure causing malabsorption and diabetes mellitus.

He is usually not as affected by the CF as he has been lately, probably mostly due to stress. Hes had a lot of success with Entheogens in the past, Hes cleared up lung infections with Lsd in the past and He doesn't take medicine for the CF. We know that we can't just rely on these things to outright cure us all the time for everything, but we both know the potential is there for healing to take place. I told him he should at the least stay off of the Amphetamine a couple days, He's tapered down from the benzo and opiate considerably. I know that with mushrooms and L they have the ability to knock out common colds and lung infections. I just want to see him get well, hes just tired and wants to ditch all the pills, and knows that is a lot of why he gets so sick from the CF. We both know this can help, I just want him to be safe with it, Ive heard a lot of conflicting opinions on harmalas and interactions with food and medicine. I think he can stay off the amphetamine long enough at least.

Do you have a reference for this?

In terms of the 'amphetamine'- one needs to be aware of the half-life of the specific compound used before one can guage how long abstinence is required before it becomes safe to take RIMAs.

^^ this may well be the case but this doesnt prove a firm association; colds in particular ofen prompt doctors to say give a weeks worth of a penicillin with no subjective improvement, only to have the patient demand another course which they say has finally cleared the infection.This is interesting because many times Ive arranged a culture of their sputum after the first course of penicillins completed which has been negative for pathogens.

People often confuse the resolution of a cold as being effected by the antibiotics when really its the passage of sufficient time which has allowed the infection to clear.
