Drugs Inc. is a relatively new series that airs on the National Geographic channel.

Tonight at 9pm Est. the new episode Hallucinogens airs.

It looks interesting and from the commercial it appears that they may be featuring a story about ayahuascha and I'm certain there is one about LSD.

Just thought I'd share for anyone who has that channel and didn't know.

I'm excited to see it :d

They had small segments on aya, iboga, psylicibin, and Lsd, and the medicinal use for patients dealing with symptoms from chronic headaches to breast cancer, addiction and emotional trauma. it was interesting. This series looks very interesting. Never heard of until tonight and just randomly stubbled upon it. caught the last 40 min

Yeah it's a really great series. Earlier I also watched a re-run of the episode on Ecstasy. It is presenting drugs in a very non-biased way. They show both negative and positive aspects of the industry of illegal drugs. They start out usually interviewing a User, then they'll go on to cover other perspectives such as The Dealer or Supplier, and it also gives the testimony and opinions of Law enforcement and medical professionals.

I love it, it looks like there is actually some mainstream attention being given to illegal drugs and showing them in a positive light for once.

It airs new episodes on Sunday 9pm est.

Next Weeks episode is on Ketamine!

I recently caught the episode on Hallucinogens. The small segment about psilocybin brought me to tears. The man who took the mushrooms was a liquor store owning Texan. Probably one of the last people you would expect to be eating mushrooms, and allowing people to film him doing so. The reason he was taking them (it stated that he absolutely hated taking them, so it wasn't enjoyable for him in a recreational context) was because he was a sufferer of cluster headaches, much like myself. For people like us, this is life saving medicine. For me, it's more than simply that, it's something sacred. Excuse me, I must stop now, I'm beginning to choke up again :lol:

One more comment though, the rest of the show was very non-biased and interesting. Even if you've read and heard the information a thousand times, it's still nice to see it portrayed in that manner.

I glanced through a few episodes, and watched all of the one on Hash.

I'm REALLY disappointed. They showed ALL the LEO opinions on hash, allowed the LEOs time to pontificate and gloat over catching "the bad guys" and aside from showing one guy who said he needed it for "extreme medical purposes," they never once talked about the history and damage that comes from the prohibition of hemp products. They never talked about how much safer hemp is than alcohol and how the schedule 1 status is so ridiculous. They just treated hash as if it were heroin in this "documentary." IMO any documentary on cannabis is nowhere near complete until they discuss the actual damage to society from cannabis as compared to alcohol, and why we have the draconian laws we do. Without that, they are just another government propaganda mouthpiece as far as I can see.

After watching the hallucinogens episode, I could not get the image of the homemade video of the guy having cluster headaches out of my head. It looked so traumatic, and so absolutely terrible. I felt for him, in the deepest way possible. And then to hear that mama mushroom had literally saved his life, it was amazing. How can such a sacred medicine be treated with the same attitude of heroin. It disgusts me.

But kudos to Nat. Geo for sure, I have always loved them, and they are usually pretty on top of things and unbiased.

The thing is, hash IS marijuana. Just like whiskey and beer are BOTH alcohol. They shouldn't even have had seperate segments for them in the first place. They make it seem like hash is some different kind of "drug" than marijuana, furthering the reefer madness crap. From what I could see National Geographic is definatly biased on the side of LEO.

I just watched the "Hallucinogens" episode and am a little disappointed.

First off, in the Ayahuasca part they did a very poor job of explaining what it is. They never even mentioned harmalas and how they work together with DMT. Instead they made the huge error of stating that the ayahuasca vine contains DMT and is brewed together with "some leaves"!!! :shock: :x WTF!!!
I guess they failed to realize that its not the ayahuasca vine that contains DMT but actually the "some leaves". :roll:

Also, they didn't mention mescaline at all. It definitely deserves mention in any general discussion of "hallucinogens", more so than Iboga I think.

I feel for the guy I really do. I used to get migraine headaches a few times a month sometimes once a week. I had one last three days and I mean it was so bad I literally couldn't lift my head up from the pillow for the whole three days. so I know how bad it can be. But I don't believe for a minute that tripping on shrooms is as bad as he makes it out to be!
And what does his daughter have to be so worried and scared about while he's on them? That right there could contribute to him having bad trips. It just seems like he's approaching the actual shroom experience very negatively. Or maybe its just an act for the show to portray the shroom experience in an unattractive light: "Tripping on shrooms really sucks! But I have no other option, I have to do it."
Again, I have to say I really do feel for the guy.

Having personally suffered from cluster headaches and severe migraines for as long as I can remember. I have a distinctly painful memory from childhood, being four years old, hitting my head against my bedroom wall trying to make the pain stop. My mother holding me so I wouldn't continue to injure myself. She was crying and was obviously very worried. The next day the doctor said it was just migraines and that I would grow out of it. Ten years later, I was still suffering horribly from them on a regular basis. It took many years of my life away. I couldn't live like a normal person. I had to miss school, and in my early twenties I started to get fired from jobs for missing work. The doctors did nothing. Psychedelics saved my life, in more ways than one.

And yes, seeing these things portrayed as something evil sickens me to no end. All the pills the doctors gave me did nothing to help me. Most of them made me feel worse or just simply made it harder for me to function.

Not to belittle your suffering, but I do have to clarify. I suffered from both migraines and cluster headaches. The difference is that cluster headaches come on in "attacks" and they're much more intense than migraines. I've had migraines that lasted weeks, and they are definitely debilitating, but cluster headaches are another story. They're not called "suicide headaches" for no reason. You simply want to die. The pain is so unbearable that it's simply incomprehensible for anyone who hasn't experienced it. Again, I'm not saying your pain is not relevant, but try to imagine six migraines coming on at once, very suddenly, and then leaving suddenly. Then imagine that this could go on for hours at a time. That's what cluster headache sufferers experience. The man in the documentary described it accurately when he said, "It's like having a hot poker shoved through your eye"

I also do understand his aversion to the experience. He's been hardwired to dislike drugs, even though he's a legal drug dealer himself. He doesn't want to allow himself to enjoy the experience, he's of the mindset that it's "tough medicine" and that the only use for it is to stop these cluster headaches from returning. He did say some positive things about "vivid colors" though

I don't get these headaches anymore, maybe I grew out of them or maybe it was all the mushrooms I started using around that time. Yes, technically hash is marijuana. But also, crack is technically cocaine. Even though they are the technically the "same", they are still very different drugs, with different populations of users, distributors, etc. Maybe NATGEO is a little biased on the LEO side, but they are still light years ahead of any other mainstream media, and for that, I applaud them. Maybe they should have combined the episodes, maybe they shouldn't have, but the fact still remains that they didn't.

Diox - Stories like yours need to get out to the public. Psychedelics are literal life savers, and not even just from cluster-headaches, but from other things like depression too. Psychedelics are invaluable psychological and physical medicines! But alas, both you and I already know that. I have used salvia to help with migraines before, but luckily I have never had to endure the pain of cluster headaches. I am glad that these medicines have helped to improve your life so much. Again, I wasn't trying to belittle your suffering. I also suffered from severe migraines and yes, they're horribly painful and the nausea that comes along with them for me is intolerable. Just all around miserable things to have to endure. I totally feel you about the power drill! And yes, the only reason I figured out that the mushrooms and psychedelics were curing my pain was because the only time I didn't suffer from the headaches and migraines was during my teens when I started using psychedelics heavily. I feel lucky to have figured that out, because the doctors had no fucking clue what to do with me

Whenever I discuss psychedelics/entheogens/whathaveyou with people I always try to tell my story. Let them know that these things are extremely important in my life, and I honestly believe I would not be here if not for their benign healing abilities. I use Salvia now to combat depression that I've also suffered from since my teens. The cluster headaches, migraines, and severe depression all together basically made my life a living hell for many years. I would contemplate suicide pretty much daily and just wish for it all to end. Once I took an active role in trying to get better, things did. Just sitting around and begging people for help didn't work at all. I always tell people that there is always a way out of any terrible situation, if you search for it and never give up. Once you let the pain/depression control your life, it just becomes worse and worse. Taking back that control and fighting for your life and well-being is the only way to get better.
