So I have a friend who at one point received a small sample of DMT from me and enjoyed it a lot. Months later I learned he recently had a psychotic episode and was hospitalized for a few days (unrelated to the DMT though). At this point it's been a few months and he seems relatively normal, and he asked me for some more.

I told him no because I don't want to be responsible for any bad reactions but on the other hand I firmly believe DMT should be made available to anyone who has a genuine/pure interest. I haven't really talked to him about his motives but I'm sure he thinks the DMT experience will help him overcome some of his problems or something. I'm still pretty much decidedly set on not giving him any but I'm just wondering what you all think about this issue.

IMO, it really depends on the cause of the psychosis; if its secondary to a medical problem like a thyroid disorder which has been treated properly then the risk of subsequent psychotic episodes is not unduly high.

If the psychosis was related to other drugs, or arose de novo out of the blue, then I would suggest that you dont provide him/her with a chemical which could potentially disturb them in a big way.For their best interests and for the sake of your peace of mind.

Are they still on treatment for the psychosis, or do they have a family history of psychiatric disorders?

Personally I think dmt could be an extremely helpful tool in working with psychosis, but only when administered under the care of a well trained psychotherapist who has lots of prior experience in these realms.

I would advise against giving your friend moar unless you can find a good therapist who is understanding and accepting of these types of approaches and you are able to do so under their guidance.

It seems to me opening a dialogue about ayahuasca with his therapist might be a good inroad to further pursuing these things. There is a lot of potential in this kind of work, but it's still very taboo at the moment.

I wish you and your friend the best of luck. :)

I would just say....from a legal point of view...that you would be better off suggesting he buy some MHRB and extract some DMT himself. I don't think you want to hear from the police (or his family...or from the CORONER) that, as he was getting into trouble, he told people that YOU gave him drugs.

Generally, if someone tries DMT and they want to journey further, they should be required to extract their own DMT.

Corpus is correct, urinary track infections can cause psychosis.
If it's a chronic disorder it's probably safe to say no way.

SWIMfrined's point is probably the most important. just e-mail him a link to the Nexus, and a link to your choice of Mimosa supplier then give him your personal opinion on the next step for him .

After that he will be exercising free will, which is important , and you're not culpable .

Good luck

Thanks for confirming my intuitions guys. Yeah I haven't even known him for that long but from what I've gathered from his/my friends it seems he's had psychological problems for a long time and they tend to come and go. I feel bad for him and anyone in his position but giving them any kind of drugs is a MAJOR liability. Next time I talk to him I will suggest that he extract it himself, as I too believe it could potentially help him.
