Extending Shelf Life of Cannabis?

I grew my first plant and had a very successful yield of 5.5 ounces. Here's the rub.... I probably smoke less than 1/2 an oz a year, which means I have 11 years worth of flower that will undoubtedly turn to CBN which I am not fond of.

I've heard legends of 10 year old pot before but am skeptical. My current plan of action after curing for 6 months will be to tightly or lightly vacuum seal the flower (along with a 62% Bevedo packet) and store in a refrigerator to be kept cool. I've heard this method can protect the THC and CBD for up to 3 years.

Has anyone experimented with long term storage before? One thought I had would be to replace the Bevedo packet every year and reseal, but I'm just brainstorming.

If I was being very good to the weed, it would be flushed with an inert gas like Nitrogen, then Vac-packed and kept at about 1-4 Degrees C, Not frozen, then kept in the dark.
If your moisture content is good before Vac-packing you probably don't need the Boveda, though guess it's still a nice thing to include, I may be a little concerned about the Boveda vac-packed tight up against the Bud as may or may not encourage mould. Some varieties age better than others of course, I know this because I deal with a related plant that just happens to require the same storage. Oxygen, light and heat are all bad.

I'm in a similar boat. I grow a bit more than a year's stash during the winter months, dry slowly, cure for a month, vacuum seal in jars with 62% boveda. Ounce jars, I open one every two or three months. I usually get a jar left over before the next grow and they just sit on the shelf. I have opened them after a period of two or three years and the continued cure in the jar has meant the old ones come out better than those I smoked fresh.
I'm sure they'd last a lot longer than that without any issue, but I don't like to have the jars piling up so turn anything older than that into bubble hash.
In my experience, unless you treat it similarly, hash can dry out and lose bag appeal after a much shorter space of time. Still works, just looks like crap.

I've kept pot for 5-6 years with no noticeable loss in potency. All I did was stuff it into mason jars tightly and keep in a cool basement in the dark. Stuffed it tightly to minimize air in the jar. I did notice that it seemed to get stale quickly when opened. Possibly that was due to crushing the bud somewhat. So, I always stored it in much smaller jars so I was opening an amount that would be smoked fairly quickly.

My cannatrol is changing the game for drying, curing, and storing my flower. After six months there's still a noticeable decrease in quality. Greened out this Saturday being +30 yr smoker going strong into the new batch

If you made it into edibles and perma-froze it I would guess it would last a very long time. But I understand that smoking is part of the pleasure.

I understand the science behind it but I wouldn't know a thing about using whatever apparatus would be necessary for a Nitrogen flush, but I'd still be interested in hearing about the process in case it's something I'm capable of. Moisture content is reading at 60% humidity with the 62% Bevedo packs inside. I had similar concerns about adding a Boveda pack to the bags that I will later seal in terms of constriction, but I've read that it's ok to do that, as I would be lightly vacc'ing it so that I don't crush the buds into diamonds. Thank you for the info.

I think that hashish is more 'shelf stable'.
I've never considered making hash but have always wanted to. I don't know how, but will search the nexus for recipes unless you know of one off hand. I smoked hash in high school a lot and I always loved the taste of it, though it was a puddy like consistency compared to the resin, sap, sticky oil stuff I've heard of now a days.

You cure for just 1 month? I've been hearing 3-6months if you want it properly cured. But I feel you, I'm barely patient to let dough rise for an hour let alone 6 months worth of curing, but in this case I am in zero rush for the finished product, my goal is longevity and shelf stabilization.

Use a heat press on 95% of the flower to create Solventless Rosin which should be collected in glass and vacuum sealed and kept in the cool dark. This should keep for years with minimal degradation of potency and taste. It also reduced the size needed to store it significantly.
I have never heard of Solventless Rosin before. Let alone Rosin or even a Heat Press. I will do some digging.

Did you ever burp the jars at all? Or did you simply harvest and trim after the drying process and immediately store in jars permanently? Good advice on the smaller jars. I plan on doing small eighth sized baggies to vacuum seal, as I smoke so little that anything more than an eighth will dry out and get old before I consume all of it.

Whoa! I did not know that these were a thing! Looks expensive, but if I ever did 4 or more plants I can see this being something I would definitely purchase, however I may not need to grow another plant for a decade! Thank you for sharing. Very cool.

I find that I smoke flower considerably more than eating it because of the faster onset and shorter duration, but I do enjoy a late night gummy from time to time to enjoy a nice dinner and then getting a good night's sleep.

Definitely get some cheap bubble bags for those top two jars of trim.
Can you elaborate on what kind of bubble bags you're talking about and why? I was going to end up making some butter or coconut oil with the trimmings so that I can make some cookies and other edibles. I've never made butter or oil so that's another journey I'm excited to learn about. Those that know me here know that I'm a huge cook, so it's funny to me that I've never dabbled with edibles.

Toshido Basically what you want to look for is a Rosin press that uses low heat and high pressure to gently press and heat all of the THC goodies out from the plant matter. You could also do this with a solvent like Ethanol, but the low heat and high pressure presses seem to create the best end material, which is a thick oil high in THC, Cannabinoids and tarps and little to no green plant material left. Sealed in a glass jar under vacuum this should last the longest through time. The Rosin presses I've seen run from around several hundred dollars to a thousand dollars or more. But if you keep it clean and in good working order you can sell them pretty easily and recoup most of your money if you do not like them or don't have a use for them any longer. I've done the ice hash bubble bag thing in the past, but it is too time and energy intensive to ever do again for me. Using Ethanol to create honey oil or a Rosin Press is the easiest ways I've found to separate out the goodies from the green plant and store it long term. Good luck in whatever method you choose.

Get oxygen absorbers and 2 way 62% humidity packs and vaccume seal, keep in dark, stable temps. it will stay good probably for a century. Jar would work just fine as long as oxygen absorbers were present, preferably oversized.

The cure continues in vacuum, dry and cure it till you have perfect humidity and a reasonable basic cure, then seal it up and nature will do the rest.

Bubble bags are a cheap, easy, efficient, way of separating trichomes to make what's called bubble hash / ice hash. The bags are basically big filters, you fill them with ice and water, dump the weed in, [use trim to practise you'll get plenty off even that], stir it about, pull the bags and let the water and ice out, the plant matter stays in the loose filter mesh bags, and there's hash just swimming about in the bottom more highly filtered bags. Scrape it out with a spoon.
For small amounts, I do an ounce or an ounce and a half at a time, you can get away with one gallon bags which cost less than 15 quid for a set of four off amazon, just type bubble bags. Even less from Aliexpress or similar purveyors of cheap tat. I'd add a link but I'm not sure I've got my head around this site's rules and better safe than sorry, but they're available at retailers everywhere.
Downside is it can get a bit messy, lots of splashing and pouring ice cold water about so it's a kitchen sink job, but it's a good cheap intro to making hash. Lots of youtubes showing you how and it's very straightforward. Nothing like as much reading involved as, for example, any of the DMT extraction methods. No chemicals, heat, or anything else dangerous, just fabric bags, iced water, and a bucket.
