Hi everyone! This is my first post here (hopping over from the 'topia).

I am curious about the necessary proportions for doing an MHRB STB extraction. I read the teks listed here and have done a few weeks worth of research on top of that (reading up on other people's problems etc).

My thoughts are this: in Nomans tek, the proportions are quoted as 15mL distilled H2O, 1g NaOH, and 1mL Naphtha per gram MHRB. This would mean that to extract a pound of MHRB, I'd have to use approx. 1.8 gallons H2O and a pound of NaOH, but only about a quart of Naphtha? Does this seem right? All that would almost necessitate the use of a 5 gal glass carboy for the extraction, with only a quart layer to siphon off the top? Sounds like that layer would very thin and difficult to access.

This will be my first extraction, so any guidance extremely appreciated!

ya i had the same prob i just added more naptha on the first pull so i got as much as i should have been pulling. leaving a bit of a buffer area. its no biggy, if you arent getting crystals on your freeze precip just evap some and try again. you could also seperate the basified solution into 2 or even 3 containers that are more suitable for your needs ie.. 2 or 3 milk jugs. they have a nice taper at the top which will bring all the naptha together in a smaller area
