Extractions worth it?

Migrated topic.
Wouldn't the relevant difference between lab/food/tech grade solvents be the potential for impurities, some of which may not evap?

As an aside, I can't say I mind the community's fixation on Limonene. If people are still at a point in their learning where they don't have a preference for a more selective solvent, then it's likely they may run into safety issues with something like DCM anyway. Given the choice, I would rather these hippies smoke limo residue than DCM.

smoking lsa isn't an option.
the impurities in dcm would be water, or other chlorinated hydrocarbons. they'll evap.
the favorable solvents for lsa extraction would be chloroform, dcm, or ethyl acetate.

I suspect a lot of the choices of "food-grade" solvents goes beyond preference, it's a fear of chemical toxicity. This is understandable, just become aware of exposure issues, and realize that carcinogenicity will most likely not occur from single (i.e. acute) exposure.
the human body is fairly robust, ingestion of trace amounts of solvents are relatively benign.

it is the fact that naptha, and especially xylene can give me headaches when I work with them..limo does not. I dont own a fume hood and dont want to have to extract outside in some bush etc so neighbours dont see. Limonene just works great for this. I can extract in my kitchen, get no headache from the smell and it does not even smell bad anyway. If I had my own real lab setup and fume hood I would probly work with more solvents but I dont.

I would prefer a less selective solvent anyway like limo or xylene. People are not using less selective solvents due to them not having enough knowledge of other solvents..I would use xylene or limo over naptha because they pull more active alkloids.

I dunno why anyone would be smoking solvents...when I used xylene there was no xylene residue..I dunno what that is about. All I ended up with was very pure spice that vaped clean.

I've been soaking some crushed HBWR seeds (ten to be exact) for over a week now after soaking in Naptha and the alcohol is very dark, almost black. Completely opaque. Is this the normal appearance?
