Favourite psychedelic music?

Lets not get our panties in bunch people. I didn't say I don't like electroninc music (I love much of it). There are plenty examples of great stuff here that had a lot of thought and creativity put into it. I already mentioned Shpongle, and in the same vein I would put Younger Brother, and much of the Hallucinogen/ Infected Mushroom stuff. Besides, there is nothing wrong with simple, derivative music that can be made quickly... it just doesn't excite me as much as true virtuosity.

Not only have I heard of Cage and the rest (and have most of their works on vinyl... original copies no less), I actually studied electronic music from one of Cage's partners in crime at the Merce Cunningham Avante Garde Dance Troupe. I have actually met John Cage back when I was an undergrad (so many decades ago - minored in the brand new subject of electronic music & studio production), and I would be willing to bet anyone here a substantial amount of jungle spice that he would not be overly impressed with some of the cookie cutter music that goes around these days.

The fact is that many fans of the stuff are not even impressed enough to remember band names or go out and buy albums. If people are going to use the "exact" same loops on their songs as have been already used dozens of times before... I will reserve my right to call them on it. It may bump when you're at a rave... but it is NOT hard to make.

My philosophy is that if I could remake a song in 20 minutes on Fruity Loops without breaking a sweat... it is not all that "genius." I don't care how long the kids who made it took. They may or may not even know what they are doing.

All I can say to that, is go see a true psychedelic rock band live... then when your astonishment wears off, go see one of the run of the mill elektro producers live. (Again, not talking about awesome groups like Shpongle, but guys who "write" songs by taking pre-made loops and sequencing them.)

I have produced music professionally for over 20 years... so yes... I do know what I am talking about. Many of my greatest friends make a living in the music industry.

And again, I absolutely love electronic music.

So you'd be very aware that there are countless bands who perform "easy one-size-fits-all seen it, done it's grandmother and blew my nose on her t-shirt" music?

It just seems strange to call out on electronic music, especially when there's so much awful pop/rock/jazz out there, as if you were making it seem like this is an issue exclusive to electric stuff.

verse/chorus/verse/chorus/verse/middle8/chorusx2 2nd time round with cheesey vocal ad libs, lyrics about some prick-tease, scissored and auto-tuned, fixed in the mix, ass in the video, tits on the cover, $100,000,000 later.. isn't anyone sick of this yet?

Cool tunes folks, wondering hyperspace since your an expert lol Do you know how to sync reaktor or traktor with ableton on a pc?? Id be forever grateful, id pay you a small amount to fix it or anyone??? maybe against the rules offering cash but I really want it to work! All I get is feedback in ableton though if I turn ableton down I can record audio from reaktor or traktor but cant use ableton, my friend has a mac and it works fine with soundflower Ive had no luck with midijack been trying it for a week and all I get is a sore head and lots of feedback :)

I used to be into circuit bending. Open up a piece of audio electronics, musical keyboard, learning toy, something like that, take a lengthe of wire and short out some points on the circuit board and go wow. Made some crazy looking and sounding gizmos. Its a nerdy hobby.

Sounds like you might need a better sound card. There are some awesome external soundcard devices that do exactly what you need. Maybe something like the USB ReLoop. Normally more for DJ style production, but very good midi mapping device for Ableton, Traktor scratch, Dekadance whatever. 4 built in soundcards and actual buttons and faders and physical scratch wheels etc. to drive your set.
 
I really love psytrance and all of the subgenres within it, although i can really agree with hyperspace fool that alot of it is very "copy paste" kind of stuff.

But today this is a problem with all kinds of music not just psy or electro in general.

But if you really dig deep you will find alot of ground breaking original stuff still being made.

I find nujazz to be very psychedelic and is all I ever listen to now when I trip alone.

Thanks mate appreciated I already have a few controllers though it does look good for the price, also have 2 soundcards one for my dvs http://www.adjaudio.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=1374&MainId=0&Category=21 and one for production Audio Interfaces | Gear4music actually the first gen I have of that but it was my understanding you create virtual audio and midi cables to sync things, like soundflower on the mac, im using midi yoke and this Home | JACK Audio Connection Kit

Sorry to clutter the thread with my tales of woe, so annoying its not happening it would be amazing to have those two programs synced with ableton then I could use the effects and devices with djsets and be able to use reaktor properly, so many cool things you could do, maybe just have to wait until I get a mac :( :roll:

offtopic:
This, doesn't have to do anything with the sound card or external sound card for that matter. Connecting two software programs is usually done soft vise inside your operating system, with help of rewire plugin or some other plugin.

To sync two programs they both must have the ability to do that (some kind of rewire option )
The host program will send all information (like song position and tempo) to the linked slave program.
Both Reaktor and Ableton have this option implemented and is not hard to do !
Traktor on the other hand is a mixing tool, and I'm not sure if it has this option implemented (maybe you need third party plugin to link them) i will check and get back to you.

Yes this is what I thought ambivalant, not the smartest when it comes to these sorts of things please pm me if you have any ideas, much appreciated. I can get ableton picking up audio but the volume in ableton must be down or I get feedback, can record the audio from both programs so maybe im doing something wrong, cheers for the input
 
@Infinite I, Totally missed what your problem was. Ambivalant is right. Its a ReWire issue all the way. (Overfocused on controllers atm, probably due in part to last night's kick ass DJ gig.)
