Films that present an alternate REALITY

On to the topic,
1) A classic that deserves to be here - The Wizard of Oz.
2) Another classic that NO ONE should miss, no excuses. Dreams and reality nested in a nightmare. Brazil. Mostly anything by Terry Gilliam fits in this thread. Also, Tideland.
3) A couple 80s horror flicks. Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, featuring an evil force lurking from another dimension, and From Beyond, a curious Lovecraft adaptation featuring... pineal glands gone berserk!!

Existenz definitely does, but was on the original list.

the Big Lebowski and Cool Runnings... what!!?? :shock:
Bladerunner is one of my favourite films (simple yet profound), but doesn't really represent an "alternate reality", though I guess questioning who we are, and wether we are automatons and if it makes a difference is questioning our reality and vaguely examining other possibilities...
I will check out those Carpenter flicks. Nightmare on Elm Street might be a loose fit, too.
Some of Terry Gilliam's flicks are already on the list, but Tideland? I guess it's sort of a fantasy-in-a-girl's-head-to-escape-reality film, like Pan's Labyrinth... I think Wizard of Oz has been mentioned too, but if not, that's another for the list!
Anyway, keep em coming even if you have doubts! The fact that there are fewer and fewer surfacing means we may almost have exhausted the list, but i am sure there are still some gems out there sparkling in some dark corner!

I can not believe nobody mentioned RUN LOLA RUN !!!
Do we control our fate and affect our own reality, and that of others? Does one tiny action change entire lives ?
About a girl who has to find 100,000 deutschmarks in twenty minutes before her boyfriend (who is in a lot of trouble), will rob a supermarket. Simple? Not quite... The film plays out the entire scenario from 3 different perspectives, based on decisions Lola could have made during the run. Very cool cartoonized scenes in places, awesome fast paced camera work, and a banging techno soundtrack. Slick and insightfull stuff. Also she can smash glass by screaming...
Others would be sliding doors, the butterfly effect, etc, all based on cause and effect. But I like Run Lola Run because it's so sharp, fast and straight to the point. And I love techno and foxy german redheads...
