Filter papers

Some simple newbie-ish questions here. I had tried an extraction & got some crystals precipitating out in the freezer. I tried to filter these - using standard paper coffee filters, albiet quite cheap ones - but the crystals didn't last long outside the freezer & melted into the paper. Will I be able to extract all the dmt by just soaking the filter paper in naphta? or could I just cut up the filter paper & smoke it - that is will the naphta have evaporated from the paper or will it have dried into it? Can anyone suggest the best type of filter to use - is to better to use coffee filter papers or an actual fancy coffee machine filter & if papers are better what type works best. Thanks

go to the chemist aisle in any hobby store and get filter papers they work very well coffee filters suck

Jeez it must be warm where you are! Soak the paper in warm naptha to redisolve it. Filtering is not realy needed where i am as the crystals stay solid due to the temperature so the cat just pours off the naptha and the crystals stick inside the jar. Does anyone know if 'gunk' starts precipitating out after a while in the freezer? Ive had mine in there for about 5 days now. But i believe marsofolds are kept in roughly the same time.

Swim tried to freezer separate, but couldn't see any benefit - just evaporate all the naphtha in a tray, no..?! All that scraping, keeping things cold and knocking around in a pyrex coffee pot seemed unnecessary. You need to evaporate 50% of the NP solvent anyways, so what the big savings of effort or cost..? Or is this done when NP solvents are of lower quality, and full of other additives etc..? Swim only uses primo-naphtha, so is that why she can't see the value in freezer precip'?..? Especially if you do an Acid-base extration on MHRB, then the NP solvent is only carrying tryptamines and perhaps a bit of 'good' yellow oils, so just evaporate it all, no?...

Thanks, I'll look around for chemists filter papers. I'm not keen on evaporating all the solvent off because its quite expensive and hard to find here so I'd rather re-use it but I'm going to try evaporating some just to get an idea of my yield. It isn't that warm here but still the crystals melted, I reckon I'll try again when its a bit colder & I've got the CFC down right. I'll redissolve the dmt soaked paper in warm naphta though - will one soak overnight do the trick & get out all the DMT?

just wondering if you had ICE and not SPICE? i know some have rinsed out there turkey baster before their first use and ended up trapping water under the naptha then filtered ... and the ice melted and seemed as if the DMT had vanished. just a thought - I am sad to say this because SWIM i knew once thought they were genius to get a gasoline siphone tool to tweek the tek with his own touch and decided to rinse the tool with water prior to its first use, and thought he had massive crystals the next day but it all disappeared in the filter.. ha ha .. the h2o simply melted. Swim shares his pain and stupidity so others dont have to . also you can recover it put the whole thing back into the freezer and see if it comes back. and did ya really wanna smoke a naptha soaked filter?

SWIM has also had the unfortunate experience of accidentally allowing water into the naphtha prior to the freeze precip stage. What resulted was a number of white blobs frozen solid to the glass. These blobs (in addition to the actual DMT crystals) were scrapped off the bottom of the glass pie plate while it was still in the freezer. (to prevent melting) SWIM then proceeded to pour the solution through a coffee filter, where the ice and DMT were caught. The ice then quickly melted through the filter and only the DMT remained. SWIM has never seen DMT melt at room temperature, even when left out in the air for hours at a time. SWIM does not live in a cold part of the country, so room temp is fairly warm. What did the crystals look like while they were in the naptha solution? SWIM has had excellent results using freeze precip, he wouldn't think of going solely the evaporation route. What he normally does is to take the dish from the freezer, quickly poor off the naphtha (which always has at least a few mg of crystals floating in it, in SWIMS experience) through a coffee filter that is held in place over a large glass bowl. This filter is set aside to dry while the plate is put into the fridge (covered) for 30 minutes or so. (to allow the plate to defrost slowly) Once the plate has defrosted, it is brought out of the fridge to dry, open air works fine. Plate contents dries in an hour or so, dry crystals are scrapped from the plate at that point!

I think some of it may have been ice. There was a fair bit of white at the bottom of the tray, along with a few drops of lyey MHRB juice that got through. I didn't have a cover on the tray for a while so some h2o moisture may've got in. The crystals floating in the naphta were long, sizeable & white and a fair number of them. I've reused everything but the dmt soaked into the filter . I've put it all in a pint jar with 100ml from another pull & put it in the freezer. I wasn't keen on smoking naphta laden paper but if the naphta evaporated & didn't dry in I might. I'm going to get some decent chemists filter paper before trying again but I'll remember about keeping it in the fridge for a while to defrost so there isn't the big temp jump coming out of the freezer. Or so sudden at any rate.
