woow...you used WAYYYYYY too much lye..but that wont hurt your yield..a good ratio is 1g root bark to 1g lye to 15ml of water

so that means if you used 227g root bark..you would use about 3.4l water and ONLY 227-240g lye...you really dont need anymore than that

what i think you may have done wrong is that you need to mix the naphtha into the solution...if you just let it sit...its not going to do a very good job pulling the spice..
 
SWIM agrees with mixing naphtha more thoroughly. SWIM's latest (and most successful) pull involved mixing the naphtha/base mixture 5 times, each mix one hour apart, each for about 8 minutes. SWIM also leaves his pulls in the freezer for 24 hours, not just overnight, to ensure maximum crystallization.

You could very well have bad MHRB, though.
 
Add the naptha, shake shake shake shake shake. With that much lye you will NOT form any emullsion, and if you do it wont last long. The idea is to get the spice in the lye water to interact directly with the naptha to move it into the non-polar solvent. Heating the naptha never seemed to help nearly as much as more end over end turning or shaking, letting it sit for 5 mins, repeat. Do this for a day and stop pulling.

Swim says that you do not seem to be patient and you will notice better results the longer you let the naptha sit in the solution.
