First (ever) Extraction: The Jury is still out...

Hey, thanks to all the folks who've helped me get this far and talked me through some of my issues tonight.

I'd like to share the pics of my first extraction attempt!

For my 100g of shredded MHRB, I decided to go with what i thought would be the fastest, easiest Tek: the Lazy Man's.

However i made one little mistake in getting Xylene. I mis-read a post about it's efficacy and I underestimated it's awful, permeating smell.

Anyhow, the results of my botched extraction attempt are sitting outside waiting to evaporate.

the last picture shows what I believe are DMT crystals trying to form in the xylene after an hour or so in a freezer. I heard in the chat and from a reputable poster that DMT doesn't precipitate well at all in cold xylene and needs to be evaporated instead.

Also, I have several more pulls to conduct over the next two days, that was just from the first pull. oh and it's more like "first spoon" not pull, because the suction device I bought at Walmart was actually plastic, not glass (it was a 'flavor injector' syringe)

Yep. Or you could wash your xylene with an acidic water wash, called a mini AB.
Forget about harvesting spice by freezing xylene.

Yeah you shoulda just got naphtha (lighter fluid) instead. You can just backsalt like Jees said or you can just evaporate the xylene which may leave you with an impure product.

...the white blob can be water....when i made first freeze there was a little of water...lokk like this, crystall look different, like a zoomed snow flakes...or similar...this for my little experience....evaporate all and use this at first no ? the next time you can start to freeze with the right solvent like zippo, hezane or pet.ether or other naphta thing ;-)

Yeah, this whole experience has taught me a lesson to pay more attention when substituting ingredients.

I plan to backsalt tonight with vinegar.

Update: first pull - F. massive fail!

I'm so done with Xylene. Tonight I decided to suck up and pour off as much as I could.

Also with the xylene that I had earlier, I failed massively to do the vinegar backsalt. I tried, but my plungers failed me.

Overall, it was WAY too hard getting the xylene layer out of the MHRB stew. it stunk (literally) and i ended up using a spoon to try to get it out (yes it was desperate and awful). it kept getting contaminated with MHRB soup, etc etc....

So, here is my checklist moving forward:

-Try to use naphtha for the remaining pulls
-Get the right equipment, and learn to suck up the solvent with it
-try a different tek on my other, unused bar powder
-prepare more thoroughly for that Tek (looking to use Cyb's or something good for beginners)

Cybs hybrid tek is superb for beginners, well anyone for that matter. I've followed it a couple of times now with great results. I would recommended getting your bark powdered up as much as possible and not to rush any of the steps and you should get good results.

All in all lesson learned. It really helps having the proper supplies/equipment and doing a thorough reading, researching every part of the tek so you undoubtedly know what's going on.

Alot of us have been in your shoes to some degree; sometimes things don't go as anticipated.

Find a tek, follow it to a T, word for word, and you won't have any issue.

An all glass syringe (50-100ml) with 6 inch needle works very well for sucking up solvent in one shot. Look into getting one of them.

xylene must be evaporated, i remember telling you so on the chat, also if you want to wash your dmt pulled with xylene after evaporation you can dissolve it on warm acetone in a test tube, all impurities will be at the bottom of the test tube and the dmt will be on the acetone, just take acetone out of the test tube and evape in the same way you evaporated the xylene, the result would be a purer full spectrum dmt, look for shaggys jungle spice tek ( which i post the link here Shaggy's Jungle Tek - DMT-Nexus Wiki ).

if you want to perform cybs tek you must use naphta, do several pulls, after you think there is nothing more dmt on your soup do several pulls more and put them to freeze on a separate container, then take the naphta out and redissolve the result in warm naphta again and freeze precip, this time you will end up with some kind of goo that will solidify into cristals after a while using a fan, this crystals will be a little bit yellowish, but those hit harder than the white ones from the first pulls.

We can not find any other Lye then the "kleen out" 100% Lye from Menards. Is this safe to use. I'm assuming it is not food grade but does it have to be to make the soap? Has anyone used this before? We are going to be making our very first batch of soap tonight and it's all we have. Can...

Disregard, seems to be lye, pure enough

I personally dont use ingredients that don't come with a MSDS (material safety data sheet), I would recommend the same practice to anyone

PS: without reading your thread, why is the picture poster above heating his soup with a "Immersion heater"/"camping heater" ? Emulsions ?
