Personally, I feel the slang you chose to use presents this particular substance in a radically different light than I view it. Perhaps this is merely where our opinions differ, and so too does our word choice. I do not like your word choice, I felt inclined to share that with you.

C'mon dude, me and you are probably more similar than 99.9% of people out there. I'm with you. We're similar. I've been there as well. If we met in real life we'd probably get along very well. I don't think I sound ignorant, I'm sure there are people reading this and get what I'm talking about, totally. You are making connections that I didn't make, I respect DMT, I really hold it up there beyond anything, I know it's something special, but I don't really know for sure what it is. I think all we can have is an opinion because none of us really know. The point I'm trying to make is that we're all in a scene, we coral around a set of ideas, concepts and practices... do you have a problem with that? that's all that deemster means to me... why would you assume a DMT user would view deemsters in a negative light?

IBeing, you gotta realize...this is a forum dedicated to DMT, and many people have enormous respect for the molecule. Deemster is considered derogatory, many on here really don't like that term, mainly because it's often used in the context of selling dmt.

there is no DMT scene, i don't know where you get the idea that there is one (inexperience, i guess)


that being said, I think Flylo vaped DMT for a week after his late aunt Alice (daughter of jazz legend John Coltrane) passed, then he recorded Los Angeles.
I don't really care for Cosmogramma.
imo, Reset was one of his better works, as was 1983.
Cosmo sounds like he lost some direction, it's all over the place.

I don't consider deemster derogatory, so straight away, you're statement is invalid. You're also wrong about there not being a DMT scene. This is the DMT scene. We're the DMT scene. In my experience (which by the way, is pretty vast, what is with the quip put downs?, remember buddy... you don't know me) there has been a growth in DMT usage, and much like hippies once were, you now see kids who are "deemsters" meaning, they're into DMT culture, I meet them more all the time. I think you're a little out of touch... and I don't really know what's happening here, but it seems like you want to believe you're the only person smoking DMT and talking about how amazing it is, and doing extractions, and reading about DMT culture, participating in forums like this?? can't you see it?

What context? In my limited experience, "deemster" refers to DMT, and has a slight invocation of "trickster", which seems appropriate. Hipster doesn't enter into it. That said, I don't care for labeling people who use spice, and have not heard the term used in this way. Drug culture in general goes in big time for names, handles, nick-names, tags... I suspect local variants are ...endless.

I don't get the invocation of trickster, definitely not, the 'ster bit denotes getting caught up in something... there are loads of different types of scenesters... I know the term from when I lived in Providence, RI... everybody there knows the term, because that place is full of them, people who are all about their scence and almost look down upon people who are outside that scence. I'm not saying thats what the deemsters do, but some of them do certainly. The 'ster bit is a nod to intellectual snobbery.

Word choice is important, and free. Your version of "deemster" is significantly different than mine - interesting that the word has been taken up so broadly, eh? Your usage and connotation is not invalid, but neither is it authoritative. The word is sorta catchy!
Re scenes, well, the connotations of superficialness and fad and clique-ism are too strong for my taste anymore. I prefer to seek community (not necessarily mutually exclusive of a scene, but certainly different.)
IME, the Nexus exhibits much more community than scene, and is exceptional for this reason.

This stuff about "scene" is now semantics, so we can now drop it. Sticks and stones man, why get hung up on a term?... I at least like the idea of a term to describe "us" as a group outside of the nexus community, we're not some closed source, the nexus is a forum, but I've met people who don't use nexus and they're just like us, because we're all doing the same stuff and that's why I call it a scene... but whatever man... maybe it's more about where I'm from because there are loads of scenes around here... there's a lot of ravers about too.

Scenes are, as the OP pointed to when asking about the hip-hop scene etc., natural social/cultural groups - but they are loose, vulnerable. They are generally about identity, in contrast to larger cultural norms. So yes, there probably is more than one budding DMT scene... but this is in many ways an immature expression or relation to a molecule that has been a human ally for thousands of years. DMT experience is SO much more larger than any one scene, any one culture even, can possess. That said, there is wisdom available, accumulated over generations.

Dude. I said that at the beginning. I called it a scene, but I said it was good one. How about I call it the best scene? everyone should be in this scene. I agree that the experience is larger than any one culture, but it doesn't change the fact that at the moment, it is a scene, not everyone's involved and I do think it's about identity.. If you're into hip-hop its like you're saying, I think this is the right way to be. I think DMT life is the best life to lead, I actually do view psyconautics almost like hip-hop... like a way of life, and getting back to flying lotus, I genuinely think his music and videos are part of the DMT scene and should be heralded as such.

i've never heard anyone whose done serious work with the molecule refer to it, or us, as 'deemster'..it reminds me of all the crooked mushroom dealers i used to know who refereed to shrooms as 'boomers'..although deemsters makes me cringe much moreso

Just to spell it out even more clearly than it already has been (and is even more thoroughly detailed in the links I provided you earlier)...most people associate the term "deemster" with selling/buying DMT as well as people who approach the molecule from a less than respectful stance (to put it mildly), comprende?
