For the Love of Manske!

Migrated topic.
Does that mean, for example, cook rue with vinegar, collect liquids and add 40mL salt water per 60mL liquid, giving 100mL total, 40% of which is saturated with sodium chloride? Entailed from this is that a higher ratio of salt water to not salt water would result in more gunk getting precipitated?

To improve on taste, I proceeded with some further processing;
another manske followed by a sodium carbonate base precipitation gave a tan powder that when dried tasted slightly soapy.
This powder was pulled with 99% hot IPA on a double boiler for about 45 minutes.
Here is the result. It smells slightly of stale spearmint candies.
I'm wondering if it's still active.

Wow infund pulled off a 7%? I'd certainly love to see the technique he used? Link?

The biggest variable I can see is potency of seeds, and if there are seeds with 10%-15% then who is selling them? Or are they not available to the public and strictly used for the manufacture of dye-stuffs?
This was done as an experiment with something else in mind (which I still haven't managed to write down and post) and the yield was 6.4%. I was also quite surprised by this yield. You don't expect to extract 200g of rue and find yourself with almost 12g of harmalas!. The method went like this:

1. Soak seeds o/n in water made pH 4 with acetic acid
2. Soft boil 6 x 1 hour, in each boil the pH was brought down to 4.
3. reduce all boils to a manageable volume.
4. Bring pH to 12 with sodium hydroxide + let the alkaloids precipitate o/n or longer
5. repeat till supernatant is clear (it took maybe 10 times?)
6. dissolve alks in pH 4 acetic acid, then filter them; discard filtrates
7. Add sodium chloride to 10% and manske them
8. Repeat manske 2 more times
9. dissolve alks in water, then add sodium hydroxide to pH 12; let them precipitate o/n
10. repeat step 9 2 more times
11. Take out and dry.

Result was off-white powder. This is pretty much the same strategy as gibrans caapi extraction. The same tek on caapi gave 1% yield though, which is a fine but not wow! yield so I don't think there's something magical in my approach. The seeds were just super super charged.

Did you not grind the seeds, Infundibulum?
Yes and no. It was actually a comparison extraction between ground vs whole syrian rue. The difference in yields was negligible. This is different to what endlessness had observed some time ago (i.e. that whole seeds give far less yield) but I don't remember how he did the extraction. I think it may be the overnight soak in vinegar plus the 6 boils that may have resulted in efficiently-extracted goodies.

BTW, does any one know the minimal amount of salt to achieve a fully precipitated Manske.
I think that is a good question, yet pardon if it has already been answered.
