[FORUM UPDATE] New layout

Hi all members,

While keeping the pace in moving forward with the DMT-Nexus I thought it was a good time to work on the layout of the forum.


WHY

The new layout is meant to make the forum better readable by using a bit different colors and removing a lot of 'non-functional' labels and other controls.


THINGS LOOK BUGGY, LIKE 2 BANNERS...

This can happen due to the caching of your browser. Follow these steps to refresh it:

* Press F5

Does not work yet?

* Press Ctrl+F5

Does not work yet?

* Close browser completely and restart

Does not work yet?

* Clear your browser cache, Google for "clear browser cache" to lookup on how to do this for your browser.


WHERE DID ... GO?

* Subforum descriptions: They are gone, they took too much space and made the forum look messy.

* In Active topics, that little red square: You can now click on the post date to go to the last unread post.

* In Active Discussions on the front page, that little red square: Click the thread title, that will bring you to the last (unread) post.


WHAT IS THAT ... SYMBOL?

* Sun symbol in front of subfora: That is a sign that there is a new topic in that subforum, click on it to go to the last unread post.

* Sun symbol in front with active topics: That is a sign that there is a new post in that topic, click on it to go to the last unread post.


Well, thats about it. Enjoy the new layout and if you find any issues or have any suggestions, please let me know by posting about it in this thread.

Plus now we can see at a glance the new posts in active topics since the last visit, which is extremely useful.

And the banner is back and looks great with the new page setup

possible bug (?) couldn't make new topic in announcements area..?

Only moderators and admins can make a new thread in the announcement subforum. This to prevent many people from making personal announcements in it.

For this the two fubfora of the Announcements and Suggestions have been created (Personal announcements and Suggestions).

That is done on purpose. Though if many people miss it too much it I can always bring it back.

Very nice. Streamlining is always good. I gotta admit, I did enjoy seeing who else was present at any given topic- I thought it reinforced the sense of community. Was there a reason for removing that function?

Woah...that was a shock to wake up to...

gotta say that I really miss the 'who's browsing' in a section function. You got a sense of where everyone is on campus...
(font's perfect, preferred the old smileys)

edit: could the 'last visit' field be linked to your logged in session? It resets after refresh or return/back

It's a consequent evolution, looks very organic and sexy. Here are a three suggestions:

1. Reinstate "who is browsing" but give the option to stay invisible
2. Perhaps make the forum description a mouse over hover ?
3. Make the header image clickable

Not too sure about the avatars showing personally, but i guess i'll adapt...

1. The "Users browsing this forum" is back.
2. The forum description is now in the mouse over hover.
3. The header image will be clickable once the new site is ready, then it will link to the new site.
