REPORT
I'm going to warn you now that this isn't a great trip report since it wasn't a great trip. I'm convinced that I need to have more light on hand the next time I try Aya. Some background... I went to a nice secluded cabin in the mountains last week for the purpose of doing some reading, meditation, soul-searching, and my first Aya experience.
My best friend drove 3 hours to come be my sitter and keep me out of trouble, and he arrived around 7:45pm. I downed 120g B. Caapi Aya mix around 8pm, which began to take effect about 30 minutes later. The body load came on pretty strong, my head started swimming a bit and I was feeling a sense of lightness/floating.
I waited until 8:45 to add light in the form of a 3g MHRB brew in a separate container - the Caapi was definitely in effect when I added the light. I waited, and started getting some visuals and more intense body load and head swimming. I sat around for a while waiting for it to really kick in, and then got up and started walking around the couch in a circle (I like to walk in a clockwise circle when I'm tripping). After about the 2 hour mark I started getting frustrated. I'm not sure if my expectations were too high, or that I'm just a natural hardhead when it comes to this stuff, but I was not feeling anywhere close to the intensity I was expecting.
Perhaps I was just expecting to be ejected into a foreign universe like when I have smoked DMT... I don't know. I sat down for a long time and relaxed, I put on some good icaros-type music and was getting very pleasant visuals with my eyes closed. Forest canopy, clouds in the sky, some geometric shapes and a little bit of Native American-looking designs. I was definitely having a pleasant and disruptive effect on my thought processes, my thoughts were aimlessly meandering as if they were floating down a lazy river.
Around the 3 hour mark I decide to follow Tim Leary's rule and pound the rest of the brew I had to see if I could get this thing going. I am talking with my best friend about the effects and my frustration and preparing the next dose when I feel the nausea kick in. Something about the thought of drinking more vinegary muck made me feel a little ill and that's all I needed. I high-tail it into the bathroom and hurl a mix of fruit and brown liquid into the pot. It's not unpleasant, as far as vomiting goes. I get cleaned up and head back to the kitchen, where I promptly down another 80g Caapi (for a total of 200g) and the rest of the MHRB brew (which brings the total MHRB brew to 5g).
Unfortunately, nothing much changes as a result. I spend the next 2 1/2 hours or so chatting with my friend, walking around, laying in the bed listening to music, etc. but it never really gets any more intense than what I felt at the 2 hour mark. It was nice and fun, I would equate it to a medium dose of LSD but not quite enough for it to be "party time" if that makes sense. My buddy and I had a great and funny conversation as he amused himself with my psychedelic ramblings.
In general, I have a problem with being a hardhead when it comes to psychoactive substances in general. It typically takes me twice as much MDMA/LSD/Shrooms as the next guy to get up to a good level. I was being extra cautious for my first Aya voyage, and I should have prepared double what I needed just in case. Next time I'm going with Rue and MHRB, and I'll have more than I need on hand to get the levels right.
Am I wrong in expecting the Aya experience to be a fully immersive, reality-replacing experience? Is that just not what happens? Still fun though.
