Freeze Precipitation - Volume of Solvent?

Migrated topic.

When freeze precipitating, one understands that the volume of solvent should be lower rather than higher.

How low, is low, though?

200-300ml range, or 50-75ml range?

One is sure that this is probably dependent on the type of solvent, how much DMT present, blah, blah, blah.

My cat's cousin's pet lizard's ancient dinosaur relative should probably just have evaporated it down until the solution became cloudy at room temperature, back in Prehistoric times, eh?

Anyway, just looking to clarify a general idea of what type of volumes we're talking about.

Thanks in advance... from the past.

Good vibes to ya.

Yeah depends on how much spice is in there, ambient tempature prolly has a bit to do with it as well if its 90f solvent will prolly hold a bit more than if it is 60f. try to freeze it, after a night if you dont see any percipitate evap it down some. if it is cloudy it is already starting to fall out of solution. Might also look at the very slow crystalization techniques as they look pretty prommising.

put it this way. the lower the better. the only reason you would not want to reduce your solvent volume is if you wanted to recycle it and don't have proper distillation equipment to recycle and evaporate. so if you have no plans on recycling your solvent the more you reduce the volume the more spice will saturate your solution and the easier it will fall out of solution in cold temperatures. how low is low? a friend of a friend often reduces down to 20mL or so in a small scintillation vial. freezes until the spice precipitates and the pours off the solvent leaving behind spice in a small easily storable glass vial no need for filtering etc.

I keep saying that hexane is the best solvent.
It has an high evaporation rate, you don't need to freeze it, just dissolve 5 grams of spice in 100 ml of warm hexane (50° C) and let it in an open glass container at room temp. Hexane will evaporate in a night leaving beautiful pure and big crystals. The slower cristalyzation the purer and the bigger crystals. Don't freeze.
