Fruiting mushrooms pic update, (one question about spore prints) anyone who could help thanks

Migrated topic.
First pins are forming, I counted 8 spread out through the two trays. None are clumped together. Here is a pick of the first one I noticed.

So my myc was getting dry after almost two weeks of waiting for full colonization and pins. There was some blue bruising from the dryness.

I took the trays out of my fruiting chamber and poured some distilled water in each tray. Unfortunately I poured right onto the top of the mycelium and every Where I did this, the myc turned yellow, but is recovering and growing pure white back in those spots. ( Next time I do this I will pour down the sides of the tray).

After adding the water and letting it soak for 10 minutes or so, I returned it, after draining the trays, to the fruiting chamber and let it go for the night. The next day pins were popping up. I think mimicking nature ie. A rain storm really got the fruiting cycle going.

It's been a few days since then and there are 110-120 pins in tray one, and tray two which was always a bit behind is catching up slowly. With over half that and counting.

Here's a pic of the pin formation, I've decided to keep the top on tight unless I have to mist so it's through the plastic, but it's progress, and this being my first grow i'm very pleased.

I'm just happy to see healthy mushrooms growing!!

Update pic

Hey spaced out2, thanks for the invite to that site. I'd pm you but I can't yet. Do you still think I should add a casing layer after this first flush? This is my first time doing this, but they seem to be doing fine without one.

Good morning
Here are some fruiting pics

I also have a question if anyone knows?

When I harvest today, do I pick everything, or just pick the ones that are about to tear their veils then let the smaller pins grow out?

Last two pics are what I harvested so far

And what is left to be harvested

I normally pop the caps off the mature fruits while I wait for the rest of the flush to mature, leaving the headless stems for later. This way the mature guys can be taken for prints and not shoot spores all over the less mature fruits. Also, you wont be distubing the substrate too much until ready to pick the rest of the whole flush. You can use a sharp blade or just carefully twist/pull them off. I try to minimize the amount of time (and the number of times) that the lid is open so I don't disturb the climate too much.

Yeah, it just depends. If they are really small pins, they are probably part of second flush anyway and I'll leave them. But if they are bigger and close enough to maturity, I pick them to make way for second flush. Everyone probably does it a bit differently, so I'm sure you'll find your rhythm. Just do what feels right. Also, If my moisture content in my tubs are correct, I usually don't even dunk trays until after the second flush.

Good to know, the mushrooms didn't seem to grow to high so I figure my fae is a little high, meaning a dry substrate. So I did dunk for an hour each.

The second flush is starting to pop up, and the pin set is decent so far. Also the second flush pins are bigger and beefier, so I'm really hoping for some nice tall fruits.

So far my yield was 51 grams

That is awesome advice..

I would have assumed they would start rotting or something. When I used a martha (they kinda just kept it at 95% humidity, so there was a continuous slower flush rather than distinct ones) I would have to pull the entire fruit, but I learned how to hold the substrate so it didn't pull up any of the casing.

This sounds much cleaner. Thanks for the solid advice!

Also great work on the shrooms Hatter!

Thanks for the replies. TGO I took your advice on the second half of my picking endeavor, and it worked out great. I got some good prints and my second flush is coming in nicely.

And thanks metashaman I'm very happy with how these are turning out.

Enjoy some picks of the second flush coming in. I soaked my substrate because I felt it was a bit dry and the fruits are definitely beefier and I hope will grow a bit taller this time.

The last photo is a close up of an inch and 1\2 by 4 inches of the second trays pins coming in. This tray is two days behind but is gearing up for a nice second flush.

I'm super happy with this

The second pic is of the pin set forming on tray 2
Which is a few days behind

I also have a question about spore prints. Any one who can chime in and offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
My first attempts produced light prints, and I'm thinking it was the timing. When I chose to pick and print them.

At what time do to take off the cap and start the print? Do you wait til the veil is completely torn and the cap starts to flatten out? Do you let it start to drop a few then do it?
And how long do you let it print for?

Again thanks for any help...

Hey, I'm glad the decapitation approach is working out for you! Your grow is looking great!

I don't use prints much anymore after switching to cloning and agar work, but I would normally take them after the veil breaks completely and they start to flatten out a bit. The tearing of the veil is like puberty for mushrooms. Once it is broken, it indicates that the fruits are mature and are ready for the reproductive portion of their life cycle.

They don't have to be open all the way, but I usually prefer them to be open enough to sit relatively flat on the sterilized foil. I try to target mushrooms that haven't visibly shot any spores yet, but that isn't anything beyond personal preference. As for how long to wait for a print, some recommend as little as 4-6 hours but I like waiting at least 12, sometimes a whole day if I'm busy. It won't hurt anything and will give it plenty of time to drop the spores, which should produce a darker/thicker print.

Here is a pretty good visual representation of when to take the mushroom cap.

As long as you get them out within a reasonable amount of time, you shouldn't run into this issue. The only time I get gross, slimy mushies is when some unseen side pinning occurs in the tub and I find them later at the end of the grow. But otherwise, I've had no problems with this method.

Thanks TGO for the sound advice, I harvested my second tray and printed a bunch. I'm gonna let them stay in my SAB for 12 hours.

I did search it out to find the right technique, but it's always nice to have some personal sound advice, since it seems most information is contradicted at least once somewhere.

Here is a pic of the second tray before harvest
The harvested second flush on the first tray
And the harvested second flush on the second tray

Plus some extras

Enjoy, and thanks again

Third flush was 293g wet, here are some pics.

One tray gave all it could, pins would form then get eaten by the myc, the other had only a few fruit out of the sides but they all weighed between 11-26 grams each.

My total yield was 134.6 grams

I'm really pleased with this first grow attempt
And honestly didn't expect things to go those good

Thanks for any help

Also I started bags of Costa ricans and they all contaminated.
I ended up hydrating a brick of coir and mixing them in with it out side. My goal was to get one mushroom so I could get a print.

It's been two months since I did that, I found this growing A few days ago.

I managed to get a nice dark print from it.
