My guess is that you don't top-water them much. It seems to preserve the fuzz when you treat them that way.
The name lophophora means 'crest bearer' in latin and refers to those fuzzy tufts.

Well thank you, fellas!!! 
I had always thought that the tufts of hair gave them character.... but when I saw less fuzz on others, I didn't know it I had messed something up
They are grown indoor, under LED lights, and I do not top water.... so I suppose that allows the fuzz to flow freely!

Surprisingly, I am using some old LEDs that I had once purchased for my aquarium.

I am also growing a little bit of something else with these lights.... wanna sneak peak?

I've had fuzzy peyote before, and it was very medicinal.
The tufts are good.

In my experience, with tufts, if the plant is going outdoors in full sun they grow more, but under artificial lighting they don't grow as much. And the tuft is produced whenever an areole flowers. My plants usually flower every time a new areole comes out, so each areole ends up fuzzy. It is possible though for it to stop producing tufts if it stops flowering when introduced to new growing conditions.
Here's a Lophophora alberto-vojtechii hybrid (x diffusa?) graft. It flowers at 1cm and has yellow fruits like alberto, but has a lot of hair and grows fast (unlike alberto) like diffusa koehresii or maybe fricii. Nor sure exactly about the genetics.

@ hostilis - while I agree that out doors are best, the LEDS are excellent supplements for the cold months,here. I brought em in towards the end of Sept. They have been flowering all winter - which explains why they have been growing extra fuzz

Thanks for the answer, I've been looking into LEDs for growing lophophora during the winter months. That's some quite intense lighting, but I suppose you are mainly growing cannabis with it.
Ah AI, you are/were into reef tanks then? I used to be quite involved in the hobby.

Yeah...reef tanks. Quite a history in my life. I was the president of the country's Largest non-profit reef related club.... but that's all in my past now.

Sodium carb is used as a buffer for reef tanks, CaOH is another Chem used in both.... many simularities
