getting the most out of the 5-meo-dmt experience

Rising Star
Hi, I bought a new book which was just published last year in 2017, and according to the author, the book is a personal guidebook to properly working with 5-meo-dmt in order to get the most out of the experience.
I've read a few chapters so far and was impressed with his knowledge and writing ability, but even moreso with the fact that this is basically a 5-meo-dmt handbook.
It is written by someone who has experienced 5-meo-dmt extensively, claiming in an interview that I watched of him that he has vaporized several grams of material over the course of, I assume, many years.
So he has succesfully mapped out the territory and presented it in a book so that other explorers of 5-meo-dmt may be able to find what he has supposedly found over the long duration of time in which he experimented so much.
I think that I am going to use this book as my guide, and no worry about going to see a provider.
But then again, in order to have the full-release ego-dissolution dosage I think that it would be both wiser and safer to work with someone who is physically present that can act as a guide, not just having a book with me.
Any thoughts, experiences, advice, suggestions, please feel free to share.

I don't know but i think I remember people, whose opinions I respect, saying that this guy Martin ball is a charlatan? Not to derail the thread but yeah.

protostar, no one can decide for you what is best for you but you. Especially people you don't even see in real life.

Is this the latest book by Martin Ball?

The one about non-dual energetic therapy.

Hi Expand, yes indeed it is the newest book authored by Martin Ball, the same one that you are talking about.
I've read 60 or so pages and I am really fascinated by this book, it is quite interesting.
Hi spractral, people that you respect were saying that Martin Ball is a charlatan?
In what way, if you don't mind me asking, is he a fraud, according to the people you spoke with?
I would really like to know more if you don't mind sharing.
I've spoken with him once on the phone and several times through email, and he seemed like an honest person.
Are you saying that he might be what some would all a professional bullshitter?
His latest book is very well written and it is obvious to me from reading it that he knows what he is talking about.
Peace and please let's keep this discussion alive.

Pseudo-science therapy from a pseudo-doctor

Why do you call it "pseudo-science?"
Martin Ball has a P.h.D., but as far as I know, he has never claimed to be a doctor, so why do you call him a "pseudo-doctor?"

Martin Ball does appear to be quite expert with the use of 5-meo-DMT as an entheogen. His "mental model" is useful for articulating ego-dissolution and energetic fluxing EXPERIENCED during a deep "5" journey. I for one am rather fond of using these models to assist giving a languagable "skeleton" to entheogenic experiences. These mental models make discussion and interpretation more facile! In the sense that these models can assist developing an "accurate" record of an experience, they are truthful. Any desire to assign the label of ultimate TRUTH to ANY human constructed model, physical or metaphysical, should be resisted. MBs biggest fault is likely his tendency to relate his rather extensive experiencing in language that excludes the foundational CONSTRUCTEDNESS of all modeling. Granted one recognizes this reality, he seems as valid an expert/teacher/guru, as any. Better than many for sure.

Humanity has an archetypal "mental model", EGOIC versus TRANCENDENT, very well developed and still extremely useful for "making sense" of entheogenic experiencing. Protostar, you might consider studying this long extant theory. Ego Death and Self-Control Cybernetics

Additionally, I'd caution re the extreme potency of extracted 5-meo-DMT. Realtive overdose, particularly when alone, can be physically dangerous. As an anesthesiologist/critical care clinician of 30y, I'll remind all that any potent, centrally acting drug has the potential to result in upper airway obstruction, especially while recumbent, potentially leading to hypoxia, cerebral anoxia, seizure, brain injury and death. Any risk reduction sitter should be capable of quickly identifying, then relieving(jaw thrust) upper airway obstruction in a heavily drugged person.

Peace

I don't have much knowledge of how he works with it, that is his particular methodology, I do know that he uses an "energetic healing" model, and in my small opinion,he is a valid practitioner, although he is retired from facilitating as far as I know.

He is quite knowledgeable about the substance, being one of the few who is. Having worked with it for several years, he is the only practitioner with it I have personal knowledge of that had remained true to the vision and not fallen into a self-apotheosis trap.

I do believe he is very hands on with his approach,so to speak, and don't think personally I'd jibe with it, but have interacted with him, and attended his annual psychedelic conference and consider him a cool dude.

As far as getting the most out of it, gee. Personally I think it takes an extraordinary person who really understands the experience and the concept of holding space rather than guiding or influencing to sit for someone on it. It's a very complex drug,I've written a bit on integrating its experience, as it transformed me and my life completely with the help of lots of integrative after work that continues on a daily basis six years post experience.

I've never heard of him until a few weeks ago and haven't read or listened to anything by him; apparently some people have a good opinion of him.

Look down at post 11 on this thread where he is mentioned and then the following posts.. :

Anyways I think this is very personal stuff, taking strong psychs, and you should treat it like that. Also, even if someone's not really the kind of person I'd want to be around they still might have good advice.. just stuff to think about.

Hope all's well.

I forgot to mention that he puts on the (free)Exploring Psychedelics conference in Ashland Oregon every year, once again charging nothing for it.

As for all the talk of his personality, I've only had superficial, social interactions with him. But he does have a fair amount of knowledge and maybe even wisdom concerning the stuff.

It's hard sometimes to separate the person from the message.
