Gluing a broken glass bong pipe

Migrated topic.

Morphing Interstices

What is real anyway?
My guy broke the glass connector pipe that runs between the 2 chambers of his glass double-chamber bong. It is a clean break at the mid-to-high point of the pipe where it is in the first chamber but not actually in the water. I am thinking we can just glue it back together with something like wood glue, since there would be no contact of the glue with the bong water, and the pipe is not heated directly at all, though it does get pretty warm inside that first chamber.
Is that crazy? Are there implications I am not seeing?

Can you explain? Like I say, the glue won't be heated or in the water, that is my reason for considering it. It is a really good quality glass already just well used and got knocked when he was putting it away the other day. It seems replacing it might be tricky as it is custom fit for this bong and the people I bought it from aren't replying to my requests for parts info.

For one, wood glue is for wood.

Also I have no idea what your bong looks like so i cant really get detailed. Post a pic. If neither the air/smoke nor water touch the glue, go for it.

Duct tape mang!

JKs... although I bet it would work just fine.

Get a glass blowing torch and fix 'er up, or use some glue. Sounds reasonable to me.

One time my friend busted the bottom part of his brand new roor. All the glass pieces were pretty big though so we used some epoxy and managed to glue it back together.

It held together like a charm and acquired the nickname "humpty dumpty". It eventually broke beyond repair but was good while it lasted.

Hmmm, well, personally, I'd say it can't repair bongs, be reliable, adequately seal ducts..i dunno, there's a lot of things it cant do that well. I find metal tape to be much more effective than duct tape and generally use duct tape now only for less critical projects. Every time duct tape has failed me, I have switched to metal tape and been completely blown away by the results, but alas, i digress.

For bong repair you either wanna look for epoxy, or a glass repair glue. Once again, dependent on your personal contacts and the type of break (angle, location, etc.) most skilled blowers should be able to repair it, leaving a warp in the glass, but creating a much more functional and reliable piece. If you can't find a good glue or blower, get a new bong. Seriously, I've seen the kind of damage glass can do to people (especially once they're stoned/blasting off) and it's really not worth the risk, especially given the purpose of your device. It's a real shame to watch someone slice open their hand due to initial stinginess and one tiny moment of distraction whilst using their bong. Part of the beauty of glass smoking art is its impermanence. Accepting breakage as part and parcel of glass smoking apparati is a must for any smoker imo, it's just another one of life's many cycles.
