Growing Peyote from seed

Hi all,

I am interested in growing Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) from seed. There is plenty of information on the Nexus about growing from cuttings, however not much about growing from seed.

I live in a little Alpine country and will probably not be using lights. I'd quite like to use available light.

Does anyone have any experience with growing Lophophora williamsii from seed? Is there any literature or website to recommend?

I would also like to buy a grown Lophophora williamsii to try it, I have not tried Peyote yet. There are so many types of Lophophora williamsii on this site, I feel like I am spoiled for choice.

What would you say was the best way to consume Lophophora williamsii?

You mean like this? This is a crested Lophophora williamsii grafted onto Trichocereus pachanoi.

What exactly does this do? Does it regenerate quicker? Do lophophora need to be flowering before you can consume them?
 
You graft because the cactus in the soil will control the speed of the growth. When using a very fast growing cactus like pereskiopsis as a base for a very slow growing cactus as peyote, you will experience a MUCH faster grow on the peyote. I really don't know where you can get it, I got a cutting from a friend... Search around.

No, they don't need to flower before you consume them. You would need several peyotes to trip though, and they take from 10 to 25 years to reach maturity. As for ingestion, nothing is as good as resin.

I'll advice you to grow Trichocereus cacti for your mescaline. Sure, grow some peyotes too, they are fun to grow, but it takes a loooong time before you can use them.
 
One only have had one seedling. It was very easy to germinate. At 23C to 35C, using a 15-hour day-length with cfl's. One crushed a few seed pods onto the soil in the same pot with my adult ones. She popped up in a few weeks. One was really hesitant to graft her, but so glad One had. She healed and started to grow within 1 week, on a peresk. One can't compare the growth to an ungrafted seedling, but she is growing very fast. She has doubled her size in a month.
