Growing Psychotria viridis Plant advice needed?????

hey all

i just purchased a established Psychotria viridis Plant, which is about 20 cm tall. Now because of season the leaves have dried up and hanging loose, so im wondering where should i keep the plant. atm its in my room about 1 meter away from 2 lights 1 warm light and one cool light fluorecent.

where i live weather is very dry and in the holsue the reverse cycle air con is on about 20 degrees, but the air is dry. Iv got a old matress package which is clear plastic which i can use as a humidity tent, is it necesary?

also i saw a clear see through jelly like worm which was hanging around on the leaves, didnt want to remove it incase if its good for the plant?

From my understanding, the Viridis...is not very tolerable in dryer climates, my only advice would be to have a ultrasonic humdifier near maybe in a bathroom or something small, i'm not too sure about lighting

This is rather different than my experience. I have a small Psychotria viridis plant that has been in my possession for several months. I started out misting it daily, while leaving it out in the open air, about 4 feet (horizontally) away from a 400 watt CMH bulb that was about 3-4 feet off of the ground. Over 2-3 weeks, I gradually reduced the amount of mistings I was giving it and moved it closer and closer to the light. Now I do not mist it at all and water it once around every 7 to 10 days. It is directly below the 400 watt bulb and is growing great, if slowly (which seems to be the norm for the species).

...i can recommend you get a psychotria nervosa plant, i want to get one because it likes indirect sunlight (windowseal) and it grows 2-3 times faster than Viridis, the only downfall would be it has slightly less dmt but it is documented that it for sure has dmt and many plant shops that sell it state that it can be used in the ayahuasca ceremeny, that or that it has great shamanic value. If you'd like to know a good supplier just shoot me a p.m.

edit: i believe they do better in dryer climates as well.

Psychotria nervosa is wild coffee. I think you might mean Psychotria alba/carthagenensis. I have a couple of these growing as well and they also do fine directly under the 400 watt bulb. The literature contains conflicting reports about the DMT content, but it is widely acknowledged that many of the commercially-distributed specimens contain DMT. When I first got this plant I treated it identically to the P. viridis.

I would imagine that if your plant is appearing stressed by the dry climate, you can put it in a humidity tent and gradually reduce the rh over a couple of weeks.

sc001, as to the jelly-like worm...I generally like to keep all insects off of my indoor plants, as there is no natural ecosystem indoors and I figure better safe than sorry. I would imagine that if your plant is appearing stressed by the dry climate, you can put it in a humidity tent and gradually reduce the rh over a couple of weeks.

I have a clear plastic bag over it, which is long and thin with 2 holes at the top acting as ventilation holes.

im also growing some syrian rue, this is a photo of where its at, not sure when or what i should next??

sc001, I would just keep an eye on the viridis and if you want to acclimate it to the normal humidity of the house, remove the plastic bag for a while (a couple hours or more) on a day/evening when you are around the house and can keep an eye on it. After a number of hours (or if it starts to droop/wilt) put the plastic bag back on it and let it recover. Repeat this over the course of a week or two, progressively lengthening the amount of time you take the bag off.

These plants are pretty resilient. Thinking back on it, when I first received mine, I put it almost directly under my light and it drooped for at least 4-6 hours for the first several days, before I moved it farther away and then "walked" it closer to the light each day.

Also, with regards to your syrian rue, good luck! Many people have tried to grow this species indoors, only to find that after it gets to be about an inch or two in height, it dies. I'm not sure how to advise you on this one, other than do what feels right/what the plants seem to like and don't beat yourself up to hard if they refuse to grow. There was a thread or two over at the shroomery in which someone claimed he had accidentally stumbled upon the secret to growing rue; starting them from seed outside.

It seems many people who don't randomly lose their plants to whatever environmental factor seems to kill them at a young age lose them when attempting to move or transplant them, iirc. I would do some google and other ethnobotanical forum searches and see what you can't find. Please let us know how they go for you

Yes wild coffee is what i meant...It for sure has dmt in the leaves but very low amount at least it's documented, not sure how much i read but it's there supposedly.

The only source I've seen which claims P. nervosa contains DMT is this one, which references Ted, M. 2002. Smokable dimethyltryptamine from organic sources. http://www.deoxy.org/smokedmt.htm. 11 p. If you go to the reference, the only data it contains on P. nervosa is "Psychotria (viridis, nervosa, puncata tuneafolia)." Imo, that's a pretty poor indication of DMT content.

Oh well it's worth a shot to try an extraction on it since it grows fast and makes a suitble house plant. Maybe it will help provide a little more info on it because that source is the only data i could find as well.

Do you think it would grow well in hydroponics, have you ever tried with an alba or viridis??

Yea, it would be great to find out, one way or the other, whether nervosa has any dmt in it. Please keep us posted

As to the hydroponics, I don't know. I've got several clones growing from both stem and leaf cuttings and hope to start playing around with hydroponic methods after the Psychedemia conference. I will be sure to post my findings when I do.

Also how much fetiliser should i feed my plant? i have a organic (power feed concentrate) which contains macro utrients, fish and liquid compest.

for a 50ml water spray how much of this should i add?

os so is this plant concidered a Firns, Folliar Appl'n&indoor, transplanting & planting or Herbs & Annuals.

i dont know much about plants and these terms and dont want to harm the plant by giving wrong amount.

Is it even worth growing chacruna indoors in cold climate country but with powerful LED growlight? How many fresh leaves it takes to get usable DMT amount?
