I meant, where does metaphysic's differ from other things that are real but not material, like math's?

To make it short, metaphysics fall out from scientific demonstrability (i.e. scientific method). Anyway, my approach is gnostic (I believe enlightment can be obtained via knowledge).

Dude, you're killing me. Metaphysics, by definition, means that you CAN'T scientifically demonstrate it. There is no scientific method created to deal with things that are beyond physics.

What in the world do you mean by 'my approach is gnostic'? What do you mean by 'gnosis' (knowledge)? What do you mean by 'enlightenment'? How does gnosis lead to this thing called 'enlightenment'?

Sorry if I'm being harsh here. I'm just getting sick of people throwing out words like this without any sort of proof or explanation of what they are actually talking about.

Also, to be blunt, your welcome thread is lacking to say the least. An introduction essay is about finding out who you are and how you relate to the community. You gave us two sentences. I don't think it's inappropriate to ask for a bit more substance.

I personally find personal chit chat to be pointless and misleading. Also, not used in judging people about their self-decribed deeds&experience, and hence not willing to fuel that approach. Hope you can understand those two lines were even too much for me, and pulled them out only because I saw there was this request in the thread. Will eventually produce more data when I will feel I have some stronger bond with the people hereby, but for now I will be happier to be took as a child who still has to experience air out from the womb. No offense ^__^.
If instead you ask for more mundane background, I have studied sociology and work in the literary field.

Through knowledge – as opposed to through faith/divine concession.

SWIM thinks if you are really interested you should investigate gnosis, instead of being harsh or, worse, getting sick :)

I've spent a good portion of my life investigating gnosis. Hence why I ask the questions I ask. You can't seem to explain what it is (or the concepts around it) which is why I get upset when you use the term.

geez, people can get nit picky on these threads and take this stuff a little too seriously

Once I was in the need of having some extremely specific data about tropical spiders. Not being a spider expert, I searched for a forum on the subject, to ask the questions I needed. It was wonderful: every user had spider avatars and keen quotes about spiders as signatures. There were threads concerning every aspect of spidering, and indeed everyone was helpful and knowledgeable. Still there was something in certain users. A desperate will of showing out their knowledge. More: their dedication. A constant state of suspect towards people who did not have under their spiderish avatar at least a three figure number of posts. A unexplainable need of stating how big a part of their lives they had dedicated to spiders, spider hatching, spider hunting & spider trade. Always getting very upset when something was stated in a generic tone or, worse, in a code wich was not theirs. I got the information I needed and left with a weird taste in my mouth. The forum still was on my bookmarks, so after quite a good while I happened to give it a look. A thread catched my eye: "International Spider Fair *******: the pics." I clicked, eager to see their faces, and to my surprise I found out those certain users were children.

Gnosis (and your wisdom) makes much more sense to me. Thanks, ^^^_^^^. =)
