has anyone had problems acquiring chemicals?

Migrated topic.

SWIM will be attempting his first extraction soon (Noman Tek), and wants to buy the needed chemicals first, before purchasing the mimosa. has anyone here had issues buying Naphtha, Lye, and 10% Ammonia from stores? Reason he asks is because he heard these chemicals are also synonymous with meth manufacturing and that some stores will make you give them your name, address, etc. obviously SWIM wants to avoid this. He would probably be going to Lowe's/Home Depot to acquire them so if anyone's had issues with these stores, please let him know. Thanks

yeah he was planning to do as suggested, he was just worried they may get suspicious even for one item, since he looks like a college kid (some might say high school.) he never had to go into a store and buy chems before so he wanted to double check that it would be cool. thanks for the reassurance.

I've never had any problems buying vinegar. Nor have I had anything from hardware store assistants, other than informative help and advice. Purchasing either caustic soda or non sudsy ammonia in hardware stores has allways been easy. Cool.

However in my local Sainsbury's and tobaconist, there has been a problem. Our city fathers have introduced local bylaws stopping anyone from making purchases of more than two cans of lighter fuel at one time. This is a pitty. Easily surmountable by making friends with your local newsagent, who dosn't give a shit.

The reason for my local council's motivation. is a desire to stop young kids from abusing solvents.

I'm in my forties, so "college kid", dosn't come into it.

SWIM reports that he has never even gotten a suspicious glance for chemicals. However, SWIM did get a bit nervous when asking about cooking supplies (not his area of expertise). Just know what you want, go in and out confidently, and try to avoid getting into detailed conversations that could trip you up.

just thought i'd give an update.

SWIM picked up the necessary supplies from different stores without any problems. SWIM did self-checkout and when he purchased the lye (roebic brand) the screen asked for his phone number. I think he just put in a random number or something. but yeah, my friend didn't have any problems.

Interesting that the machine asks you, but in my experience the cashier was completely oblivious...I'd imagine you could also hedge your bets in a situation without self-checkout by choosing the dullest looking employee. Chances are then they've got very limited knowledge of the products and will probably just take things at 'label-value.' "Drain cleaner, eh? I always used Drain-O..." Societal standards (at least in the US) really don't even call for a response to this, a grunt or nod should suffice!

Being alert and aware of exactly what it is you are doing will boost your confidence, and boost others' confidence in you. As long as they think you know what you're doing, you'll generally not receive any flak.

YOU DO NOT NEED AMMONIA

which is why he didnt buy it. someone here pm'd my friend and strongly advised against the amonia wash and to skip to recrystalization instead. this wasnt the first time he heard the ammonia wash was garbage, so he abandoned that idea.

SWIM hopes he can get something closely resembling some of the glass-clear beautiful crystals he's seen posted on here.

yeah actually when SWIM bought the naphtha at home depot, he went to some indian cashier who didn't even give him a second glance. only reason he did self checkout at lowe's was because the lines for the cashiers were pretty long.

3 and a half years since first hearing about elf spice, SWIM is now determined to extract.

However, SWIM is having trouble with the solvent source. SWIM is from the UK. Having waited so long, SWIM is determined to get it as right as can be first time and would appreciate any assistance from UK residents. SWIM has consulted the many different teks on the net and has taken note of Vovin's comment that Ronsonol is the devil.

SWIM has struggled to track down a viable source of naphtha that isn't lighter fluid, but is prepared to test this out if it's the last option.

My question is this: Can anyone recommend a brand equally VM&P naphtha in the UK? Or another product that is the same, or a good brand of lighter fuel? SWIM has struggled to track down a product that even lists naphtha as an ingredient in stores.

Help appreciated, what happened to DMT world?

You just need to dig a bit deeper and/or run a search on this forum, there have been a number of threads on this topic. I don't live in the UK so I have no direct recollection, but I know it's been discussed on numerous occasions.
