Help identifying this little friend

Ignirion

Esteemed member
Hi everyone,

I need help identifying this cactus, as I want to ensure I know exactly what it is. Here’s a photo I took of it:

Based on some research, it might belong to the Echinopsis pachanoi (San Pedro) family, but I’m not entirely sure I would say is a Peruvian torch. I’d like to confirm its species and learn more about its potential uses or properties.

Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!

Cheers

This is the cactus where mine comes from. Perhaps this picture is more convenient.

I'm with @pete666 on this one. The second picture also doesn't look like an active specimen for the same reasons as before, as well as the "string of sausages" segmentation on some limbs. It's a fantastic specimen, just not what you're looking for.

Positive identification at a species level is difficult without detailed close-ups of botanical features such as spines, spination, areoles and their hair, flower buds, flowers, stamens, fruit, and seeds. The more from this list, the merrier.

If you have permission to do so, you could still try a phytochemical analysis, preferably starting with microscale on a tiny piece. There's no point wasting time and materials on an inactive, and still beautiful, plant.
