Herbs to potentiate mushrooms

Migrated topic.

I am wondering what herbs you guys use to potentiate mushrooms? I am looking for herbs or extracts of herbs active in low dosages that extends the duration or intensify the effects or aspects of the effects.

Of course the harmala-alkaloids do, as found in Banisteriopsis caapi and Peganum harmala, but personally I am looking for more mellow potentiaters, ideally to be used in mushroom chocolates or other food.

Around 3 Datura stramonium seeds works wonderful, for me it promotes a much higher euphoria as well as some color enhancement and CEW scenes that's more easily understood.

Blackcurrant is active as a MAOI, where it actually does potentiate the mushrooms around 1.5x to 2.5x, depending on dosage. It can feel very rough though, just as B. caapi and P. harmala can. It is something going on with mushrooms and MAOIs. I find the combination to provide very healing and earth-shattering experiences, but it can be very hard times.

Plants containing ephedrine, caffeine and theobromine also works to some extent, but I wouldn't really call it a potentiation of the mushrooms.

What other suggestions do you guys have?

pomegranite juice (pure stuff) worked for me..made the afterglow linger on for abotu double the usual..I dunno whats in it but apparently its an MAOI..

Oh cool! Maybe I should make a delicious smoothie that potentiates mushrooms... Man, that would be great to drink while tripping! I already love drinking smoothie, juice or eating fruit at trips (especially after the peak), so why not choose the ones known for potentiating mushrooms?

Blackcurrant (MAOI), pomegranate (Cytochrome P-450 inhibitors? MAOI?), passionfruit (some harmala-alkaloids), grapefruit (inhibitor of CYP3A4) and starfruit (inhibitor of CYP3A4)... Hmm, any more fruits or berries out there? This could be a great smoothie! :D

Well you already hinted at yerba mate' and cacao. Passionflower of course. Coca tea is wonderful all the time, but especially so on mushrooms. Any calming/relaxing herb is enjoyable kava kava is a particularly amazing synergy. A bit of cayenne pepper will really kick things up a notch. Fresh citrus and cannabis should go without saying. Also the "kombucha high" meshes nicely into the psilo matrix. Last but not least clarity giving herbs are wonderful, things like ginseng, maca, ginko biloba, gota kola, and the like tend to play rather nicely with the fungus.

well, you will hear about MAOIs in general be it beta-carbolines or substances like quercetin (and other flavonoids), as you also mentioned you will hear suggestions about tropanes, caffeine, ephedrine etc. Everything goes, more or less: some might indeed potentiate it, some might synergise with it.

What about piperine? Has anyone worked with it or studied it in any extend? Both here and in mycotopia there were some piperine threads (extraction mostly, rather interesting) but the usual culmination of them is the "wink-wink-you-can-make-something-hush-hush-with-it". I wonder if its g-glycoprotein inhibitory qualities can be of use. Of course its much more, being a P450 inhibitor (do not know how broad and strong though) and i also keep hearing about it having MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitory properties. I do not remember though in what concentrations it presents those actions.

As far as availability, well...Pepper is to piperine what Peganum Harmala is to beta-carbolines concentrationwise...

Worth a look, be careful/smart though about it. It seems rather powerful and potential dangerous if one doesnt inform oneself about it before attempting anything with it.

The mazatecs use cinnamon tea for the entire day after and right after the ceremony to stay in an open state or something to process the healing..and from its warming effects on the body..kathlene harrison talked about this once, and how cinnamon isnt even natural to that area so for them to adopt its use like that must mean something.

That's very interesting. I trust what the Mazatecs chose. Cinnamon is considered strengthening and warming, so it makes good sense that it combines great with mushrooms, or any entheogen for that matter. I have some cinnamon bark a friend took back from India recently, I will try to drink some tea the time following my next trip! :)

Thanks for all the suggestions this far, you guys are incredible!

I have not tried it, but I have read several reports that rhodiola increases the visuals by quite a bit when taking ayahuasca. It does not make it stronger, just the visuals gets stronger. Perhaps it would work with mushrooms too.

I'd bet that a spice blend like: pippali (long pepper), black pepper and ginger

+

a Mucuna pruriens extract

+

maybe some Rhodiola extract, like Dagger said

+

maybe a just a touch of caapi.

Never tried it though myself. Haven't had mushrooms in a good, long time. I've eaten tons of mushrooms though, and I have plenty of experience with these spices and herbs. I take mucuna, along with caapi, on a daily basis and I have a feeling they would be a great addition to mushrooms....giving it energy, increasing the dreamy magical elfin toad wonderment and most likely increasing the visual aspect as well...maybe making them crisper. But I'm just speculating based my experience and how these herbs effect me on a daily basis.

I would certainly try it though. 😉

Mucuna doesn't have a weird taste either. If I were going to do it, I wouldn't have the mucuna without the caapi (or maybe a tribulus extract). The MAOI's will allow more of the compounds in mucuna to be effective.

My 2 cents.

"Datura stramonium" - How do you use the seeds? grind and ingest with the shrooms?

I have a bunch in storage, planning on trying to boost a HBWR/LSA experience with a few of them.

Maybe a chocolate with the following sort of ingredients: mushrooms (derh), raw cacao, a little mucuna extract, and some spices ....cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cumin, long pepper, black pepper, tumeric, nutmeg, coriander, a bit of cayenne....not all of them of course, but they're all very good!

Maybe a little ashwagandha or white ginseng or reishi extract.

That's just where I would start, personally. My body's different that everyone else.

I remember having a smoke of passion flower on the come down of a shroom trip, it was showing me open eye paisley fractals and was the first time i felt magnetic energy between my hands, definitely added to the trip in a beautiful way, nowadays id prefer to make a tea, havent tried it yet on shrooms though.

I also once read that some shamans that frequently trip for long periods eat lots of bananas & fish as they are good for seretonin, i know once when i did lsd on an empty stomach i ate 3 bananas, and  although this could just have helped to digest the paper.
