Interesting that you come for cybersecurity advice on a forum dedicated to DMT and psychedelics. Were you ripped off on the darkweb?

Please note that we do not discuss sourcing here, as per our Attitude rules:
No discussion on selling, buying, sourcing, acquiring, pricing, trading, receiving, distributing, mentioning pending deliveries or smuggling of drugs
This includes all isolated psychedelic compounds and RCs (Research Chemicals), whether they are legal or not. The only goods allowed to be discussed are legal live plants, legal viable seeds (both in the Sustainable plant and seed suppliers subforum) and legal/unwatched chemical supplies. See Street Value of DMT (AND WHY YOU SHOULDN'T EVER SELL DMT AND OTHER PSYCHEDELICS) for good reasons why we don't allow this.

Also please read this thread: Bye bye MHRB sourcing talk, we will remember you.

Having gotten that out of the way, feel free to go into a little (non-incriminating) detail about how you thought the sites may have "looked legit".

Some more knowledgeable members may be able to point you in the direction of sound cybersecurity advice.

If you're worried about "getting hacked/jacked" - I suggest you setup 2 factor authentication on every single website you can. Never use an online 2 factor application or try to avoid SMS authenticators. For example, if you're using an online 2FA like google or using your phone number, and they get into your account or sim swap your number, then you can easily be breached. Honestly these are less likely if you have less eyes on your persons/accounts. Also, I suggest never having linear details. Never use the same password twice, but it should be less likely to be hacked if you already have 2FA on absolutely everything. Most "hacks" happen from data breaches from other insecure websites that you sign up to where they already have a bit of your information - so if you're using the same password for multiple things, that's how they "hack you"

If you mean "getting scammed" - Do a bit of due diligence. Be patient. Find reviews for said things.. If something doesn't have a place where there are reviews or has bad reviews, then you can make your own assumptions based on that. Scammers target crypto because financial institutions and third party institutions like PayPal have buyer and seller protection on "goods and services" payments that protect buyers with mailing/tracking identification. In a worst case scenario, what can happen to you is they make a tracking number that gets delivered to your address, but don't actually deliver what you ordered, so they ~can potentially~ win a dispute because they have proof they sent you something, even if it's not the thing you ordered - but you can also fight those to win it. Never send gift cards to anyone. Basically, the general rule of thumb is never send something out that you can't physically get back with some type of protection from an institution but I tried to cover the main ones.

In the case you have to use crypto, gift cards, or paypal friends and family payments - Don't (or at least try not to?) ~MOST~ of the time it is a SCAM. I'll just ballpark this, but about 1% of people who ask for F&F payments, crypto, gift cards, or donations in some type of way where you're unable to refund are just looking to get one up on you - However in some cases people with non business accounts in certain countries would rather have a donation/or friends and family payment from paypal because of less fees, or just take it to feel more safe about not getting a chargeback within ~180 days for whatever reasoning.

Source: I've dealt with a lot of P2P payments for a lot of intangible things. Hopefully that covers a little bit of your worry. If I made a mistake or you're wondering further, I'll try to clear anything up in a future post.
