How can I dry my crystals more?

Hi, so after I've removed my glass trays from the freezer, emptied the naptha, left to sit and dry further etc, my question is this.

Even after leaving the crystals to dry for hrs, whenever I scrape them up I always end up with them stuck to the razor blade, and then my thumb as I try and push them off into a storage container.

Does anyone know how I can get all the stuff in the pyrex dishes to dry completely, so that it can be scraped up with ease?

I wonder if the problem here is not that it's not dry, but the solvent pulls out oils from bark along with the dmt. So the crystals are coated with a layer of sticky oily gunk.

I suppose the solution here would be to add a defatting stage before you add NaOH (have only seen this in A/B teks) and then, perhaps more importantly, re-crystallise oily crystals. Neither of which I've done but will be attempting with my next batch (re-x at least)

Just wanted to chime in that gimpy has given the most perfect answer one could think of. It's the oils that make the DMT sticky, especially when pulling with hot Naphtha.

If it bothers you, do a recrystallization which is very easy.

I know what you're talking off. I just patiently scrape it all off (yes, stickiness is annoying, but I have patience), and recrystallize it.

Then I end up with most beautiful spice, which is a pleasure to smoalk and look at.

Yeah I will definitely go down the re-x route. For some reason I just worry that I may mess up and then loose all my spice. Also, what do you guys store your spice in usually?

I store mine in an empty small vial, which used to contain eye drops before.

I recommend one of these for storage. fairly airtight and doesn't let light in at all. Plus they're silicone, so the spice doesn't stick to the container in nearly the same way as plastic or even some types of glass. Plus they're dirt cheap at any decent head shop ($4 on the site below). Plus... dabs!

Usually the A/B cleanup gets it pretty clean and non sticky.
Fan it for an hour once it comes out from the freeze precipitate stage and then leave it for half a day to air dry. It'll scrape up very dry. If you weight the container before you put anything in it and weight it again afterwards (to weigh bits you cant scrape up) you could add equal amount of herb and some acetone and make some changa.

There's ways to reclaim it all! Happy Trippin'

I have used these as well, however I find my spice coats the glass and I loose product. I recommend silicone non-stick vessels, especially since their flexibility allows you to bend and stretch them to scrape them clean of every last molecule

It's called a 'Dram' vial (if anyone is looking for them - ebay). Drams being a unit of measurement. More often used for gold prospecting than storing spice.
