How much can I reduce

Hey everyone,

So i'm doing a big extract I had 1.5kg of material and the 3 acid cooks produced 7L of liquid. I've currently reduced it down to just under 4L of liquid.

I'm worried that too much reduction will end up in a loss due to evaporation, But I'm not sure if this is right

I was aiming for 2.5L - 3L before continuing.

Is this ok or should I stop now and just work with what I have

do not filter after reduction, and you should be fine, DMT salts are very stable at boiling temperatures, they will certainly not evaporate.

Are you working with a separatory funnel? If so, I wouldnt reduce more than you did just because as some people say in the linked thread, it can happen that some stuff precipitates when you add lye and this may block your sep funnel's stopcock..

Better work in two runs or so and keep that amount you have.

If youre not working with separatory funnel, you could probably get away with reducing further to 3l without a problem.. again, just dont filter after reduction

I've stopped at 3L and will do 1 defat with 100ml of naptha.

I know some ppl said not to worry about a defat but i'd prefer to attempt to remove any impurities along the way rather than at the end.

then I will basify afterwards.

I dont have a seperatory funnel yet am waiting on its arrival. So I will be following the DMT handbooks syphon method. have got that worked out as best I can atm.
